PFT: Steelers give Butler permission to talk to Dolphins

Conventional wisdom has been that the Steelers saw LB Coach Keith Butler as the heir apparent to Dick LeBeau. Hence, why there was some waffle over whether Butler would be able to interview for the Cardinals DC job.

In fairness, the Steelers did finally come out and say that Butler had permission to interview (shortly after word got out that the Cards had already decided to give the job to Bill Davis).

This year, he's being allowed. Does make me wonder if there's been a change of heart on their part, or his :sosp:

It may be by the team, but probably a sign that when LeBeau hangs em up, they'll go Cover 2. Getting the "3-4" guys out of there makes that resistance less.

I was actually hoping Butler would've gotten the Bolts DC job in 07 - well I wanted LeBeau when I thought Tomlin would let him go and go C2.

i hope we get this guy as DC......but iam hearing from my people al groh is the lead candidate barring butler blowing us away during his interview (which is happening soon)

Groh took the GT job, and Schefter tweeted last night that it doesn't look like Butler's going to Miami, either.

      we probably aren't interested (I would be).  But with the massive improvements on our DL via FA and the draft, the DBs will have an easier job this year

      Why is it so hard for some people to understand its not about similar styles and one team is better at it than the other. Its about 1 team, us, that isnt even playing their own style and look demoralized from the moment the puck drops and then playing like dogshit. That is all on Rod.

      Respectfully man if your entire argument is based off of a simple pff score lookup then your argument is severely flawed. There is a reason Mike Jackson signed a two year 10 million dollar deal and Jaycee is one of the highest paid corners in the league. Secondly, I don’t get the comparison to our huge need at pass rush last year. What does our massive and historic lack of talent at rushing the passer have to do with a weakness on this years roster?
