Vincent, Bernedeau, or Robinson?

What do you think happens at the RG position next year? Keydrick Vincent will be a FA once the FA period starts. Has he played well enough for the FO to resign him? Mckenzy Bernadeau played well at LG but Travelle Wharton will be back once Gross heals up. And Although Duke hasn't had much playing time, alot of people think he is a sleeper once he gets the chance.

Who do you think goes into camp as the starter?

Vincent. I don't see them tampering with continuity.

Bernadeau essentially proved he can be Geoff Hangartner's successor. The team prefers to keep at least one "utility" guy who can play multiple spots. That's his role now.

Robinson will get a chance to show what he can do. Could he conceivably prove to be a younger option and displace Vincent? Maybe, but I don't think they go into camp looking for that.

I suspect keeping or releasing Vincent will be a function of what he costs to re-sign. With no cap we don't have to limit how much we spend within reason. No doubt Bernadeau and Duke will be back. Thet are still on their rookie contracts and are cheap.

I expect that right guard will be another one of those positions where there is plenty of competition this year.

if I didn't throw him in at RG/he didn't win, maybe. We do need to come up with a cheap youngster at LT, though maybe they see Garry Williams as that guy (and the track record suggests if he is, he's worth it). We don't need a bigtime guy at OT, just a solid backup. Schwartz could be that. I don't think they'd ever see it as anyone but Wharton backing LT, though. Schwartz obviously earned the right to be that backup RT. I just think he's as able as anyone to play the RG spot too. My only concern would be making sure he can keep his pad level low.

With Kalil's contract slowly nearing completion, Bernadeau's status as a permanent guard might not be unclear. I don't think they'd have a problem putting him at center if they needed, and unlike Hangartner, Montgomery, or Hartwig, he has the power Kalil does.

I don't see Vincent coming back personally. Down the stretch, with two seventh rounders on the line, he was still the worst of what we had. Missed blocks, holds. Plus with three bigtime contracts, and hopefully one at C soon as well, even the difference between cheaper vet salary and young players can be a difference.

The way Schwartz was getting ripped by Magazu in minicamp I wasn't sure he was even going to make the team. That was, of course, pretty early in the process though.

Agree that as long as Gross and Wharton are here, Wharton likely remains the backup LT.

I still think Vincent goes in as the starter next year, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him transitioned out. I pinned a load of the early line troubles on him but thought he got better down the stretch (could have been lingering injury issues).

If we had to get rid of one guy I suspect it would be Vincent, he isn't under contract and even at a vet minimum will cost around 720,000. One thing the Panthers have shown is that they can develop offensive linemen and salvage guys from the scrap heap. It is unclear how much Vincent's struggles in 2009 were due to a lingering injury issue. I also doubt we will sign him for longer than 1 year so it is possible he might get a better offer elsewhere. I suspect they won't jump to make a deal so it will be interesting to see whether he gets any looks from other teams once free agency begins. We have shown that we won't get in a bidding war for offensive linemen backups so we might lose him to someone else before we decide what to do with him. At 31 we might not think he has much tread left on the tires and will opt for a youth movement at the position.

The contract thing does make a difference, granted. I may be putting too much import on Fox's tendency to favor veterans at certain spots. Capped or uncapped season could also come into play.

Still, I think they might rather have Bernadeau as the utility guy. If not Vincent, maybe Robinson does get the start.

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
