To make college more affordable, this bill will finally end the unwarranted taxpayer subsidies that go to banks for student loans. Instead, let's take that money and give families a $10,000 tax credit for four years of college and increase Pell Grants.

And let's tell another 1 million students that, when they graduate, they will be required to pay only 10 percent of their income on student loans, and all of their debt will be forgiven after 20 years, and forgiven after 10 years if they choose a career in public service, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they chose to go to college.

And, by the way, it's time for colleges and universities to get serious about cutting their own costs, because they, too, have a responsibility to help solve this problem.

Well, when I turned 16 I though my mom was handing me down her car but instead she got me a 10 year old Civic. She pays my insurance still but I paid for gas but I was on the good grades system, (wants me to treat school like a full-time job), and worked weekend jobs for spending money. She's also paying for all of my college, but as soon as I graduate and get my first full-time job, I get dropped off everything of my parents.

I worked since I was 14 to pay for college and I just bought a car when I turned 21. Up until that time I biked, walked, bussed, or shared my Mom's car.

And as for buying my kid a car, I have one of two plans. Either I will pay for half of it and be reimbursed, or (and especially like this one, I heard it from a friend a few years back) I will buy my kid a used car and a set of tools, and before they can have the keys, they have to take the car apart and put it back together. Maybe an older car, like an 80s-90s Mustang, without all the computerization that would complicate taking apart a modern car. They will have gotten a free car, but they'll have worked for it, and will never need to go to the mechanic.

my son will have a car at 16 I can't wait to call him to come pick me up from the bars these cab fares are killing me! Now he will be able to drive me to concerts, me and my buds to road trips, home from tailgates, and drive his own ass and his sister to and from home from school!

when i was 14 my dad brought a car home for my 16year old sister- she was a lil bitch about it because it didnt look like a honda--

+ it threw a rod in the driveway..

2 years later I rebuilt it and paid for my own insurance and gas..

I put a crap load of hard work into that car, and was proud to have it, even if at the time it was 14 years old...

My kid will get whatever kind of car he can afford- i might match him on what he saves, but he will have to pay his own insurance.
