Keywords you are missing is "effectively/properly" man. Hell, Dallas, New England, and I'm sure there are a couple of others I'm missing that have 1, yes, ONE that go for damn near 100 receptions, and some certainly that many damn near all the time.

1 TE with 100 is greater than 3 with 63. Not hard math, especially considering roster spaces and all.....but believe what you want, it's America.

This year there was only one tight end in the whole league who got to 100 and that was Dallas Clark who caught exactly 100. Witten got 94, Tony Gonzalez was next with 83. New England's top tight end only caught 29 passes (Ben Watson)....not sure if you were confusing WR Wes Welker for that position.

How in the hell is 63 catches and 5 TD's not effective? Just because it's not one guy doing it by himself, doesn't mean it didn't work. When you look at how horrible our passing game was as a whole, those numbers are actually pretty awesome.

As for the roster spots, the Panthers run two TE sets a lot, since they are a running team, and you can't do that without having 3 competent TE's on the roster, because one of them is bound to miss a game or two during the season. This is not rocket science, man.

Why are you leaving out the amount of roster spots, and the use of them if you are going to carry them?

I am not really sure what your point is either. Most teams carry 3 tight ends. Dallas carries three tight ends, but only uses one of them for catching passes. The others come in on special plays, or play on special teams. We carry three and use all three in the passing game.

As far as the low numbers of receptions, well we didn't throw the ball as much as Dallas, and for most of the year, we had major issues at QB. IF Jason WHitten played for us in 2009 and we used him in the same way Dallas does, he would have been lucky to get 60 catches total.

one tight end caught 100 balls this year. He was the second in NFL history to do so.
