Will Chris Berman leave ESPN for NFL Network?

ESPN analyst personality Chris Berman's contract with the World Wide Leader is set to expire in three months. Two reports have surfaced linking him to potential openings elsewhere.

According to Sports by Brooks, Direct TV "is in full pursuit of the longtime broadcaster."

Brooks hears that Direct TV approached Berman about a pre- and post-game opportunity involving the Red Zone Channel, which is currently hosted by Andrew Siciliano.

Berman would also work with Dan Patrick on a to-be-launched sports channel. Patrick is already involved with Direct TV, hosting a radio show that is simulcast on the network's Channel 101.

Meanwhile, The Big Lead reported Monday evening that NFL Network "is putting the full court press" on Berman for an undisclosed opportunity. Berman is reportedly still very close with NFLN President Steve Bornstein after the two worked together at ESPN in the 1980s.

Berman, of course, would have to give up covering baseball for the latter opportunity.

Brooks adds that ESPN is expected to make a "reasonable" pitch to retain Berman, but "will not break the bank to keep him."

Berman, 54, has been at ESPN since 1979.

I love how regular guys like us always rip the people that cover our sports. Its always a I coulddo so much better or that guy is an idiot... When in reality none of us could do better and they prob aren't full blown idiots.

I personally think that post sunday football has suffered GREATLY since Berman and Jackson were banned by the new NFL contract from doing primetime. Primetime was the best. I always looked forwad to watching it when the Panthers won that afternoon. I dont ever watch the NBC postgame show. Because maybe its just me, but it seems like there reporting the games like its the News instead on a sport. There's no excitment and there's no enthusiasm for the sport that we love.

I respect the hell out of analysts. Berman is one of the most hated for a reason though, he gives "redundant" a new meaning.

      No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.

      Honestly its why that Jalen Coker grab was a big deal.  I'd been warming up to the idea of a sadiq pick and was adamantly against a receiver...but this altered my train of thought.  I mean For instance, Cade Otton signed for 3 yr 30 mil contract...thats not dramatically different than the rookie payscale for #19 (4 year 20 mil with 5th year option), however you KNOW otton is decent...no clue if Sadiq will be anything.
