PFT: No tag for Pep

And still nobody has answered the burning question. When the Panthers offered Pep the 90million contract to be the highest paid DE in the league, he said he didn't sign it cuz he didn't feel he deserved it. Now he wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the league...So what changed???

He probably lied. Brentson Buckner, who I don't believe on everything, has said repeatedly that the real reason Peppers has been going through all of these different excuses for leaving is because he just wants to LEAVE. As in, he just wants to get out of Charlotte. Saying publicly that you just want to get out of a city kind of burns your bridges with an overly emotional fanbase that has become attached to Pep. That's why there's a new reason for leaving in every interview that happens.

I agree, that is how I feel about this whole situation. I believe Carey AND Peppers are pulling the wool over alot of people on here.

Monumental blunder by the FO if he walks for nothing.

I wouldn't go that far...considering what we could do with the money saved.

We would have enough money to throw at a lot of big name players with 18 million off the books. We could be serious players for Brandon Marshall, Osi Umenyiora, Seymour, Kampman, Pickett...

With Pep off the books we could sign two of those guys if the price was right. I would rather trade a 2nd rounder to get Marshall and sign a guy like Kampman, than have Peppers at almost twice the cost.

If we can't work out a long-term deal for Pep, this would be the most ideal situation in my opinion.

    • This.  He knows where the seam is about to open, cuts, and accelerates hard. He’s slippery and tacklers always seem to be taking awkward angles to get to him. No dancing. Runs low and powerful. Almost never goes backwards for a loss. We’ve rarely had the guy who bounces off of tacklers. It’s nice seeing another one.
    • I can't speak for others but yes I read it. The conclusions are based heavily around the use of the statistical metric DYAR created by football outsiders and used by ESPN for this article. It only includes players whose production began in 2000. But excluding HOF running backs who produced BIG in an iteration of the NFL that was not yet catered to making things much easier for offenses in order for them to prop up more recent candidates is rather absurd and seems like just playing favorites regardless of where one might fall on their opinion of the use of the metric in question.
