Thomas Davis will test his knee on Monday

From PFT:

Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis blew out an ACL in November. On Monday, he'll run on grass for the first time since having the ligament surgically repaired.

"That's going to be huge," Davis told Charles Chandler and/or Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer. "Considering the way I've spent the last 12 weeks, Monday's going to be huge."

The performance also could have a huge impact on a decision the Panthers need to make by March 4 regarding Davis' status for 2010.

His rookie contract has expired, and he's slated to become a restricted free agent. The Panthers need to decide whether to tender him at the highest level, which would require an offer of $3.268 million and put the Panthers in line for a first-round pick and a third-round pick as compensation. For the first-round level, the tender would be only $2.621 million.

Davis had a big year in 2009, racking up 71 tackles in only seven games in the team's new Tampa 2 defense, which tends to pump up the stats of the weak side linebacker.

He's said all along he wants to remain a Panther. I have no doubt he'll live up to expectations if we manage to keep him - I don't think his injury will prevent him from getting his fair market value elsewhere - there might be some impact but the long term benefit of keeping him and he's open to staying. I think if we make a fair offer for his value, he'll sign.

Like many of you guys here, I hope we can keep him. It's a shame he blew out his knee with how he was having his career best here before the injury. I'm concern if we tag Pep & pay him for $20 millions a season, we may have trouble signing Davis. Not to mention King & others as well. :o

Well TD already said earlier this season that he wants to remain a panther. He is no pepper type person who wants to hold out and crap like that. Now it is up to the FO to sign him to long term are risk lossing a great linebacker like we did years ago with will weatherspoon to the rams. Uncap year should make it possible for to resign Dwill to long term and sign TD long term without paying the price for years to come. But for the next 2 weeks until FA begins. It is a wait and see game.

With all the Peppers drama , it makes me sometimes forget about all the other amazing athletes we are lucky enough to have on our team. Runs a 4.4 and was on pace for 160 tackles? Wow.

Sign this man. Him and Beason working together fore the next half decade will be memorable for all of us Panther fans.

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
