Name Change?

The Bobcats did win and was selected. Why are you wasting your time on this? Oh yeah I remember, we have to stick it to the black owner.

Yeah, everyone hates Jordan cause he's black...

BOB Johnson had the Ultimate say when push came to shove over the name (Bobcats over Flight)...just like he had the Ultimate say when it came to building a downtown arena (City voted NO)...not everyone is a neo-nazis...

Basketball was invented by a Canadian and look what Americans have turned it into...Naismith must be turning is his grave...

:frown2:

2010, and look at the beautiful life you live...Your finger tips aren't caked with blood from a life in the field, they cringe b/c you post on the Huddle all day on your nice little lap top... Why bring up the racist junk man? You're only further perpetuating those same god damn ridiculous stereotypes and unjust opinions that you're arguing against with comments like that... Not to mention it makes the whole "moving forward" thing pretty hard...

Can we all just get along? :grouphug:

You're exactly right. W.E.B. Dubois would be disappointed. Everything that has been said here is making us (people who feel johnson wasn't the best owner ever) look like the KKK.

Then why not admit the issue isnt the name itself, its the legacy the black owner has left behind. We dont want him to be apart of it even though he did more for Bobcats basketball than anyone else PERIOD.

Why would I admit something I didn't believe in?

I've never been a fan of the name "Bobcats" plan and simple...this is ridiculous...

if this was a true color issue, people would be rioting in the streets over jordan buying the team. His success would make people resent him more. But, his purchase has been well received (even though its only been a few days) and people are excited.

Larry Brown has done more for Bobcats basketball than anybody else. Get your poo straight. But he can't get any credit because he's white right?

The Bullets example is not a valid one either. They changed because of the DC area violence and how the name seemed to "support" that image. It was a name change based upon an association with gangs and violence that was being embraced by the wrong group of people.

I would imagine there have been 100 or more sales, and NEVER has a team changed because of a sale that was not a relocation. If a team changed to drop a racially insensitive term or a term with a negative connotation, it was just correcting a mistake made long ago. Not like naming a team "Bobcats".

This is exactly what KT will never admit. Its not a race thing with Bob Johnson. Bc like you said if it were a race thing people would be mad with Jordan becoming the owner also. Bob Johnson was just a dude with tons of money that thought he could make a quick billion in the NBA like he did with the music industry. He coldnt do it so he quit on the team and the city. Just like Shinn did. If it would have been the owner of CMT that owned the team and acted exactly like Johnson did then KT would have hated him just like we all do now. As much as KT wants to throw stone at all of us for being "racist" the fact is that he is far more racist than any of us

If the owner of CMT made it a point to schedule a game on MLK Day every year as a tribute to his legacy I would have great respect for him too. How long before we ask Mike to get rid of that? No more MLK Day games please Mike.

    • I also didnt think that Tepper was too involved. I think he liked to be engaged in the process but never did he seem to influence anything.  If Im an owner Im in the draft room as well. Hell I get excited about draft season in Madden if I can do it in real life....
    • I realize it about the expectations, but on paper, we drafted players who would have a chance to compete at positions where any could realistically step in and take the job---Freeling?  Yup.  Hunter?  Yup.  Brazzell?  Yup.  It is likely that all three see the field early and often.  Day 3:  Lee?  I see him as the #3 CB and the job is his when they are ready for him--and it is his to lose.  Hecht?  I loved him in mock research and called him the best C in the draft.  He might play a year behind Fortson or he could take the job--regardless, he is the obvious front runner for the 2027 season.  Wheatley?  I see Ransom and Moehrig as basically the same "in the box" type S.  If Wheatley can learn for a season behind Scott, he has the tools to be a serviceable FS, something this team needs.  Finally, Kuwatch seemed to be a PS pick, and he could be--but to win the 4th ILB job, he needs to beat out Bam Morris-Scott and with a 46.5 vertical (I can't do that on the triple jump) and a superior RAS rating, he looks like a special teamer and depth piece.....I forgot about Morgan's comment about giving up the 5th--probably to get ahead of Detroit.  Freeling has the athleticism and the tools to be the best OT in this draft.  The others lacked arm length or something like that--Freeling simply lacks a ton of experience.
