Safe Mode is sometimes tricky to get into because it's only available for a short time on boot.

You can try VGA mode if the first attempt also makes the screen go away, or last known good configuration if you think that something in the video setup changed the last time you were in.

I'd simply call whoever replaced the motherboard. They're supposed to have it working, including having the right drivers and BIOS settings, and it's not. They have to have booted it to be sure it did come up as it should before returning it to you.

But if you don't feel like doing that ......

Boot into the BIOS settings and check the video setting. It could be that your new board doesn't have the onboard video but the BIOS defaulted back to that setting if your original board did. Or your new board does have video onboard and you can try setting the BIOS for that, move your connection, and see if it boots okay to fix the graphics card. You'll be able to see the BIOS settings if you can see the boot up script.

Still, I'd call the tech that replaced the board first.

Reboot and hold shift. You should get a menu where you can select safe mode.

got safe mode and forgot about vga..selected normal and then windows xp..same results.

well vga got me further than i have gone...now what..ha ha

Did you change your resolution while in safe mode? Make it something standard, like 800x600.

i did natty but the moment i either click on ok or apply it goes blank again. I reboot to see if the changes worked and its the same thing all over again.

ok. on the control panel for display settings, i changed to restart the pc after the changes because it was on change without restarting and this kept kicking me out.

Now it's rebooted and is running some disk checks so fingers crossed...

after it rebooted, light blue screen and it has all the scripts running and says its checking the disks.

then it reboots again, and yep, after windows xp logo...dark screen again.

Instead of your resolution check your refresh rate and set it low.

no, this vid card is at least three yrs old. I replaced and it's worked great.
