Playoff push cheering thread

Call me an eternal optimist, but if the Canes continue this surge, they have a slim chance at finding that 8th spot come playoff time.

The trades will shake things up, but I figured I would humor myself and make a thread for 'who to root for/against' each night until we are officially eliminated.

I will start with tonight, 3/4:

Canes over Senators

Maple Leafs over Bruins

Penguins over Rangers

Capitals over Lightning

Islanders over Thrashers (This one is really a toss up, since we need to jump both teams, but an OT game would hurt us a lot).

Sharks over Canadiens

All of these are plausible (Canes and Leafs winning being the biggest stretches). But if they all come to fruition, we are a mere 6 or 7 points back from 8th...anyone else still holding out hope for a playoff run?

Interesting side note. At the beginning of the season, we had a 14 game losing streak. We are currently on a 7 game win streak. 7 points back after yesterday. Tampa Bay is on a skid. We pretty much play every team that is between us and the 8 spot at least once. We control our own fate really, with a little luck to boot. BELIEVE!

Uh, no?

I'd prefer a top 5 pick, especially as loaded as we are down in the 2nd round.

Besides, it's hardly possible, and how stupid would we all feel if we missed it by a game or two, then end up late in the pack for the draft.

I'm all for seeing our young talent whoop some ass, but lets be realistic here.

As stated by Rutherford we are the team in the best position to move up in the draft no matter where we finish. Not sure how high we could actually move up.I think the way the team is playing we are gonna win ourselves out of a top 3-4 pick so why not push for the playoffs?

These next 2 games are very important. Win them both and we very well could be sitting 3 pts out of 8th. Lose them both and any chance for the playoffs could be gone. Possible 4 points this weekend against two teams right in front of us in the standings.

To be honest I'm a canes fan, but I rather not see them in the playoffs. I mean getting a 7th or 8th seed and getting swept by Washington or Pittsburgh does nothin good for the team. I want them to get a 1st or 2nd draft pick so they can get a shutdown

defenseman or a young talented and speedy player to help out staal and then we can become a real Stanley Cup contender again.

Stupid Ducks give up a 3 point lead to lose it in a shootout to the Candiens!!! That didnt Help us... also it doesnt help that Buffalo gave 1 point to Rangers. I was looking at our schedule for March... BRUTAL. We play Washington 3 times and the Pens twice. If we can win all 5 of those... then yes were in the playoffs.. I just dont see how thats possible...this team has to be on the run of its life... I want it to happen sooooo bad! Go Canes!

    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
    • looks like the Lions and Bangles should forget about the playoffs, trade everyone they can, and start over.
