Question about RFA'S

This may be a dumb question so i apoligize in advance if so but say a team signs a restricted free agent...i'll use richard marshall as an example, if he gets signed by another team for what year will we get the 2nd rd pick, for the 2011 draft?? surely not this years draft right??

Other, smaller leagues are going to look very attractive if they don't hammer out a new CBA.

It'll be like when Herschel Walker and doug Flutie decided to enter the USFL draft instead of the NFL draft.

Well, could teams opt to agree to tenders involving future draft picks beyond 2011(not sure on that myself)? For instance, using the Marshall example, could Team A offer his tender and we accept only if the pick given is round 2 2012?

If not, then it's for next year with or without a lockout.

If a team has an interest in an RFA and has a deal worked out in principle, they do have the option to go to the team that tendered the player and work out a deal (ie, when Schaub went to Houston, the Texans approached the Falcons and the teams agreed to a deal that sent Schaub to HOU for 2nd round picks that year and the next)

If someone tenders Marshall and we flat out agree to not match the offer, we get their second round pick in April's draft... Compensation for losing a RFA is made in this year's draft, not another year...

In Fiz's original post, I think he meant 2011...

To finish this thread...

If Marshall gets an offer and we do not match it, we get that team's second rounder in April.

Sure, we could then match the offer and agree to trade Marshall to that team for further compensation, but that would be a sign and trade, and not an RFA (Marshall) leaving because of RFA tender rules.

There will be a draft in 2011, even if there isn't NFL football.
