On the same day that the Steelers signed receiver Randle El and safety Will Allen, they've brought back two guys who by all appearances would never again wear the black helmet with the logo on only one side.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that receiver Antwaan Randle El has agreed to a three-year contract with the Steelers; Aaron Wilson has posted on Twitter than Ryan Clark has agreed to terms with the Steelers after the door on his career there presumably had been closed.

The developments are bad news for receiver Limas Sweed and free-agent safety Tyrone Carter. Sweed undoubtedly will be dumped; Carter undoubtedly won't be re-signed.

Clark recently visited Miami, and he was with the Dolphins earlier today, negotiating possible terms.

Sweed was not good. He lost his job to Mike Wallace last year.

You can remember Sweed from his go-ahead touchdown pass that he let slip through his hands during the playoffs last year(I think it was vs. the Ravens in the AFC championship?)

    • DJ Johnson just ticked too many boxes on the warning list. Unpolished/raw at his position, older guy, etc.  Project players don't belong in the top 3 rounds, IMO. Not on teams completely bereft of talent. The Ravens, 49ers, etc of the world can get away with that. It's hard to justify that in the condition our roster usuallu is.
    • Trust me, I wasn't either. Just seemed like another TMJ, Mingo, etc. Well.....turns out it was.
    • Upper tier backups have good options available.  Also, hitching your bandwagon to a career backup isn't likely to pan out.  Mills is a possibility, but that would have to be a trade. He is under contract through 2026. Same with Lock, under contract through 2026.
