is this based off of all the field goals he kicked in the season.

No, his performance in training camp and before games.

Guy had a big leg, but lacked major accuracy.

I also noticed that he miskicked alot of kick-offs. He was trying to kill the ball. Much like a golfer trying to "grip it and rip it". You shank and slice the ball. He did this quite often.

I hated carrying three kickers last season. With the # of roster spots, we need that for special teams and depth....not an extra kicker.

Now, I want to see Kasay released.

I love him as a Panther. He has been great for this franchise. However, his leg is slipping. He is not good from beyond 50 yards for FG's....he can't kickoff to the endzone...and quite frankly, his accuracy on 40-45 yard FG's is not what it used to be. Anyone remember the 2 sub 40 yard FG's that he missed against Buffalo.

We need to look to make a move here.

Another one bites the dust. Don't worry though he is only the kickoff specialist. I wonder how many more times we have to say that this spring. Don't worry he is only the punter. Don't worry he is only the field goal kicker. Yeah, no problem. We can keep losing guys with no consequence. Just ask New England how that worked in 2009. And they lost a lot fewer guys all of last year than we have so far this year.

Exactly. every time someone gets cut everybody piles on about how they sucked, and they were getting old, it was there time and everything. Funny no talk about this last year. the fans here are like viscious pitbulls, you think they are nice while you are here, you leave and turn around and they go for your throat!!!

they will keep making these excuses for why these guys sucked until they cut or trade someone like smitty or dwill. then all hell with break loose!!!

i do have a question though. Does anyone ever remember a team having to replace this many veterans on a team in one offseason? usually it is spread across like 2-3 years.

Kasay last season was 5 for 6 from 40-49 and 9 for 10 from 30-39. In 2008, he was 11 for 12 from 40-49 and 9-9 from 30-39. So no he is not having trouble there. From the 50+ range he was 1 for 4 last year and 1 for 3 in 2008. And I believe a couple of those trys were because Fox elected to try a field goal instead of punting. Anyway, that's not that bad for a kicker from 50+ when you compare it to other kickers around the league. There's nothing wrong with Kasay.

I was saying this all last season about our kicking game. It is very difficult to carry a kick-off specialist given the limited number of active roster spots on game day. You sacrifice somewhere else...and the sacrifice was at WR and ST coverage.

I said before last season that Kasy's leg was beginning to show decline and that we should look to replace him within the next two seasons. Guess what...that is exactly where we are.

He sucks at kick-offs. That is part of the job description for a kicker.

I am not opposed to him kicking FG's this season if Baker can adequately carry the kick-off load.

I do not like carrying him as a FG kicker if we have to fill another active roster spot with a kick-off specialist.

That's why I think if Baker can't do the kickoffs then Baker is gone. Kasay is still a very crucial part to our scoring.

I would rather judge my punter of punting duties and my kicker on kicking duties.

Not a fan of cutting your punter because he cannot cover for the weaknesses of your FG kicker.

However, if there is a strong punter option out there that improves your punting and gives you kick-off ability, then I am all for makign that move and keeping Kasay.

However, Kasay probably only has another season...maybe two left in the tank. Risky to make a move at punter just to keep a FG kicker for one or two seasons.

Just my opinion...which ain't worth any more than anyone else

The KO duty isn't just strictly for kickers. It's for a punter or kicker. So Baker wouldn't be covering for anybody. They're both good, but Kasay still is a very big part of putting points on the board. I don't think you can get rid of a great kicker like that especially with so many other teams struggling to find a consistant kicker right now.
