My Take on the Panthers Offseason to Date

Honestly, from being a Panthers fan since I moved here in '01... I don't think we have great character in the lockerroom aside a few names. I have seen many of them around town, heard stories, read stories, etc. I think the logic is pretty sound to that assumption that Fox wouldn't want any more troublemakers in the lockerroom because he already has too many.... what don't you follow homez?

Why do you think the Jets were willing to pick up Santonio? Because they have a very strong lockerroom. Notice how the Bengals didn't make a move for a troubled WR... it's cuz if you don't have a strong lockerroom... ur troubled wr's end up in jail or in Cincinatti's case, dead. They learned from their mistake... New England... strong lockerroom... picks up Randy Moss... turns out great. etc.

The Jets picked up Holmes because they got a Superbowl MVP wide receiver still in his prime for a lousy 5th round pick. They have made others moves as well because they believe that after the playoff run last year, they are a few players particularly on offense from being in the Superbowl. They are "all in" right now and think that the CBA will be signed and that Ryan can control Holmes or are at least willing to take a chance they can. Even if they are wrong, they are only out a lousy 5th round pick. They realize that the best time to buy is when others are doing the opposite. Just like the best time to be buying in the stock market is when others are selling and the prices are cheap. Going along with the crowd rarely works in any business endeavor.

Could we handle a locker room problem right now? Probably not but that is what happened when you decimate the veteran leadership on your team which the Jets clearly didn't do.

I agree... But clearly Santonio Holmes would or Brandon Marshall would be tremendous additions for us. Steve Smith is dying for a competent compliment... and either would fit the bill... Santonio for a ridiculously low price. So there HAS to be a reason that John Fox didn't make the move.

I don't know about you guys but I think the lack of strong lockerroom has a direct effect on our play on the field and could be to blame for our lack of consistency week in and week out.

BTW- Y'all can flame all you want. I have plenty of things going on in my life where I don't live and die by the forums. If you don't think this thread is worth anything than yall shouldnt post.

Does anyone else think Steve Smith is roiding? His head is looking pretty Barry Bonds-like.

koolkatluke- That's my projected starting lineup with our current roster for 2010.

And Smittyisoursavior.... that was definitely nasty hit. I just love how much ground Sherrod has shown he can cover laterally. That puts a lot of pressure on opposing QBs and is the reason why he was able to make an impact so quickly... Fox might start Godfrey because he's a little more of a veteran, 1 year... but from what I've seen I expect Martin to look even better after another full offseason while switching from his natural position.

SouthCak- Fox does not want ANY troublemakers.... somewhere along the last few years he has LOST his lockerroom..... so he does NOT want to make matters worse by ADDING players who have character issues and might make matters WORSE.... AM I FUGGIN SPEAKIN CHINESE?

    • Thank you so much for posting links to the players so I don’t have to copy and paste the name and look it up.
    • All signs point to legit. We’ve been way better than our record the last few years it’s just we’ve had brutal injury luck. Also I’ve watched nearly every game this year and 3 things have stood out to me even when healthy from early in the year to now: 1. Early on Lee had some brutal rotations and situational coaching but he’s improved a ton there. We lost some close ones early we should’ve won. Sure most our recent games have been blowouts but in close games we’ve improved a ton there. 2. Defense. Overall team defense has improved so much, it’s not just hot shooting winning games. This D is absolutely a real trend and sustainable. LaMelo in particular has gone from flat out bad defensively to above average. We have so much length we always should’ve been good defensively but it took time for guys to buy in and really hone in on it which they have.   3. Pretty much all our young guys have taken strides forward. Moose’s development as a passer has been insane, Miller is putting it all together to be an elite 3 tier scorer able to hit 3s, mid range and finish at the rim. LaMelo still some poor shot selection but has cut the turnovers considerably. Kon has been a great shooter all year but has steadily improved in other aspects of the game too.      It has definitely been surprising how quickly it all came together out of nowhere but really none of it surprises me. We’ve been building towards this for years now.
