FOr those who have not seen it, Gruden and Clausen....

I like Gruden but I'd be much more worried about Clausen if someone who actually knew how to groom a QB conducted this whole thing. Let's be honest Gruden can't coach young QB's anyway. That's why he relied on old veterans when he couldn't develop any of the 100's of young ones he had on his rosters.

Then he throws his receiver under the bus in the next question.

If we're in a honest "Study session" and he was asked why the play didn't work.... Well if the receiver ran than wrong route; then the receiver ran the wrong route. What do you want him to say? If the coaches were not getting the play in... Well they were not getting the play in. Is he supposed to make up an answer??

I'm not a Clausen fan yet... (I have a strong hatred for ND), but people are reaching at nothing. He may have some immaturity issues, but this interview is not evidence too support that claim.

everyone expects the quarterback to be Jake Delhomme here and take the blame for everything. sometimes it really is someone elses fault, and I think a leader should have the balls to call them out on it. not just be like "it's okay fellas we'll get 'em next time!"

Hated him (the person) when I saw the piece predraft.... he is physically and mechanically great... but he def needs to grow up.

I pray Moore will play well enough that Clausen wont be thrown to the wolves so he can grow up for a year. Starting immediately would ruin him.

No doubt. Dude has gotta sit a year.

Gruden grilled Clausen over one of his whopping FOUR interceptions on the year. I don't see the intent of what Gruden's doing as malicious, nor what Clausen said as foolish. He said Clausen's way ahead of the others, but didn't really show the same latitude to him that he did the others (the The Golden Calf of Bristol interview was pure pollyanna).

I don't know. If I had to venture a guess, Gruden went off a little bit as a guy who identifies himself with the ND program despite having nothing to do with it himself.

Finally watched this video and some people are paraphrasing like hell, and doing a bad job at it. He said he asked Coach Weiss' opinion and was told he was ready rather than just act as if he were God's gift to Quarterbacks. He also said playing in the NFL has long been his dream--which was left out by the OP and many in this thread.

And the part about him "throwing his receiver under the bus" is overblown. Yeah, he said the guy ran the wrong route but also said it was "miscommunication between the two of us".

I dont know where people came away from this vid looking at this guy as immature or a brat or a bad teammate. He was TAKING NOTES when being criticized. He was respectful. He came across to me as humble if anything.

I'm going to be perfectly honest and say you guys are making a big fuggin deal about an otherwise harmless interview. He wasn't throwing the reciever under the bus, I don't think he was that fidgety and for Christ's sake his Superbowl-winning coach and mentor told him he thinks Clausen is ready for the NFL. If Weiss told me I was ready, I'd believe it, too!

Anything anti-The Golden Calf of Bristol is ok in my book.

"I am a virgin and I dont believe in abortion. I am a warrior of God and I have a huge head."

I am a Christian myself, but damn The Golden Calf of Bristol. Chill out, live a little. You stuck up douche. Denver screwed themselves royally on the pick. Glad they passed on Clausen in hinds sight though.

Keep it in the tinderbox. have you been there yet? You will fit right in.

I love how a persons beliefs are reason to attack them.

this

Don't give a crap about any of that. Personality wise, I would much rather have The Golden Calf of Bristol than Clausen. The Golden Calf of Bristol seems more mature. Not that I think he is more talented, just more mature.

that

I know what the hell are the Palestinians and Israelites thinkin'

Probably that if Clausen is given a chance, he will either be the next Montana or Leaf.

    • Yep, like I said, I don't mind guaranteeing them money, but make the contracts smaller amounts in order to minimize cap implications. I don't know about "half," the actual amounts, whether more or less than half, would have to be determined by the NFL and NFLPA (which will probably be highly contentious, if not "impossible").  I'm just for whatever leads to the best product on the field while also unaffecting my wallet. As an aside, the NFL owners are greedy bastards in my estimation. They're trying to keep a larger portion of the pie, but players' agents are greedy as well, and they've sewn seeds of greed among the players. It's not all their fault; we all know what our society has evolved into, but the NFL wants a bigger piece of our smaller pocketbooks and refuses to "negotiate" with us (that's why we don't have cheaper and more reasonable à la carte options to view games that they're gradually trying to migrate to paid TV), so fu<k 'em. And then on top of that we have guys trying to water down the product even more by feeding greed. Change the way things are done so that we can at least see players prove themselves on the field without throwing wrenches into the engine that pays guys that have proven they can play on a pro level.
    • So if one of the parents wants to buy the theatre group or the band lunch they should get banned?
    • OK, I didn't realize this was about high school, but...if I'm spending my personal money trying to help some kids out, then no one is going to tell me how to spend my money. I get enough of the government spending my money--allocating my tax dollars--to children who don't really need anything, and now they're trying to tell me how to spend my personal money? Sure, there are many other issues to consider and rabbit holes that we could go down due to ethical concerns because it concerns kids, and the need for transparency is extremely important, but maybe as opposed to trying to stop kids from benefitting in darkness, we need to open up the blinds (and blinders) a little bit so that they can benefit in the light. I get where you're coming from, but this is a loaded and layered issue, and I'm just trying to give you some food for thought.
