Patrick Willis gets 5 year, $50 mil extension

Gross just got a contract.

I don't see how we can afford to NOT resign the majority of them.

Up until this year I would have agreed with you but before this year we didn't gut all the veterans off the team either. I realize this is being driven by the uncapped year and looming lockout. But what if there isn't a cap next year or moving forward. Who is to say Richardson doesn't keep staying at the bottom of the heap. If this year's team has a winning season then he has a blueprint for the future. Sign good guys under a rookie contract and let them go when it is finished and they want big money by replacing them with another cheap veteran or better yet a draft pick. Take the money and pocket it all while raising prices at the same time.

I must have missed the part where the Big Cat was given the heart of Monty Burns.

Willis is still getting a lot of guaranteed cash. I can still see Williams and Beason getting that kind of upfront moolah (we, um, still have a little time for that to happen), but just don't see Kalil getting $25 mil upfront.

HAHAHA-- Where is that panthergal (or whatever her name is) always sucking JR's balls?

I ALWAYS called JR a money hungry fool- well the writing is one the wall this season....

Old JR has allowed almost every Panther which was the face of this franchise walk, or told to cut them...

Considering we will have a Salvation Army budget this year, its a great thing we are getting our guys signed long term...

NOT----

Look for another disappointing Panthers season with the "youth movement" to blame, while next offseason JR locks out the players so he can fatten his pockets, and increase ticket prices... AGAIN

Williams will probably be the first casualty next off season...

JR needs to choke-- I want to win football games, i dont give a crap about the owners and the greedy NFL..

I nominate this for post of the year.

Some seem to think that Willis got a fairly average deal(PFT has something describing this)..something akin to Ray Lewis of 2003...I"m wondering if Drew Rosenhaus will let him settle for this..

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
