Tony Softli out of a job

just looked at some past drafts and just thought some of these were interesting..

in 05' RB Eric Shelton was taken 11 picks before Frank Gore, 56 picks before Brandon Jacobs and 76 picks before Darren Sproles..

Elvis Dumervil was picked 5 picks after Nate Salley in the 4th round of 06'.. and Jamar Williams was picked 1 pick ahead of Salley.. and Brandon Marshall the pick before Jamar Williams..

in 07' WR Dwayne Jarrett was picked in between WRs Sidney Rice and Steve Smith

and Tank Tyler was taken with the pick right before we nabbed Charles Johnson..

Ryne Robinson was taken 42 picks before Steve Breaston..

while all this sounds interesting, it doesn't mean softli wasn't good at his job.

i don't care how much you invest in your scouting department, the draft always has been and always will be a hit and miss. that's whay you find gems in the late rounds and busts in the first.

fwiw, 42 picks between robinson and breaston means that every team in the league passed on breaston (a few 2x) before he was considered the bpa.

and the final call is between the coach and gm so we don't know how each was rated. the panthers could have reached on some of these picks or they just didn't work out(scouting is not an exact science)
