Favorite old school arcade games

Consoles eventually killed the arcades here. In Japan however they are a popular social outlet, I wonder what the main cause in this difference could be.

Well, for a long time, most Japanese houses didn't have a console so the kids went to arcades where consoles caught fire here. It also helps that there's more urban atmosphere there and people live closer together which also plays into the no consoles thing because houses/apartments are smaller so people don't have run for a lot of them.

Ah good call on urban culture.

We are much more spread out and it makes sense then that consoles would explode here since the average person would have to drive to get to an arcade.

I have some an old desktop. If you've been running a lot of MAME, you probably already have everything I have. I can't remember what all I've got... maybe 20 titles.

I really need Tempest, the sites that say they have ROMS do not...there are other games I'd like and I seemed to have lost a lot of my old ROMS but Tempest is what I am really after - my fiancees favorite game.

I may build me a MAME cabinet and only run Tempest and Major Havoc - that was my fave, and a lot of the Major Havocs were modified Tempest cabinets although I prefer the original rolling pin controller of Havoc to the Tempest dial.
