Vets and Rooks: Double Standard

Anybodyhome

This board is full of threads and posts calling out rookies for their poor performance, touting the positives of others and, other than the obvious Jordan Gross issues, nobody is calling out any of the veterans for their lousy performances...

Captain Munnerlyn for one... couldn't cover a gopher hole with a beach towel.

It's not a double standard for Vets vs. Rooks in a preseason game... its a DIFFERENT standard.

Preseason is more of a test for the new guys than it is a test for the veterans. Why do you think they keep the starters out for most of the game?

And as far as criticism goes... there were several folks saying Gross failed to show up. Most people don't care though, because we know what he can do, and probably just needed to shake some rust. If it continues into game 1 of the regular season, trust me, we'll all take notice.

Similar situation for Munnerlyn... though he's been up and down... so we're just waiting to see how it goes.

to be fair, Jordan Gross has been blasted since last night. He was horrible. Granted, he is coming off a leg injury so rust happens.

but Captain only has a year under his belt in the NFL (and not a year as a starter either), not sure he really counts as a vet.

all of our rookies played well imo considering everything..I think AE even did well considering what all he has been asked to learn. Captain returned kicks in college. I think AE did a better job than Captain's first 5 kicks overall.

Like I've said a few times today. This was the first preseason game. Nobody should be calling anybody out. Yeah the team will find things to work on but John Fox isnt freaking out about Jordan Gross and his 10 holding penalties. He also isnt freaking out about Armanti doing a little dance when he caught punts. I"ll start freaking out when John Fox and Marty Hurney do.

I don't think the fans are too concerned with guys they've seen play. And we haven't been just giving praises to rookies. I've seen lots of praise thrown Brayton's way... Ed Johnson, Eric Moore, and even Nick Hayden. We don't just ignore them, they're on the field too, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say we're more interested in seeing what our rookies can do. Hell, rookies make up half of our team almost. So they're kind of important to focus on, especially here, early in the preseason.
