Too little too late for Fox?

I've been thinking, this is the last year in John Fox's contract. Yet in his last year, we finally make some massive changes and get rid of most of our veteran players, which is something we really needed since we've unsuccessfully tried to mimic our 2004 superbowl team pretty much every year since then. And while I think we are finally going in the right direction, I just think it's too late for Fox to be taking this approach. We are one of the youngest teams in the NFL, and honestly, I think that it will take another year for us to build strong chemistry and be reliable contenders for the playoffs and the superbowl. Sure I think we've got a lot of talent right now, but the lack of strong veteran leadership makes me not so sure about this year.

Now I haven't been the biggest fan of Fox for a few years now due to his predictability and his veteran loyalty. But, again, we finally made some well needed changes this year, which so happens to be the last year in his contract. And with what I think will be a good possibility of a mediocre season, and also considering it will be at least another year for us to be strong contenders, what happens to Fox?

I for one am doubtful about his future in Carolina. If we don't make it to the playoffs, that's it. But then there's always the possibility of resigning him despite our record this year, to continue with building the team.

Thoughts?

The real question is - what does John Fox want? This is what interests me. Has he already decided to leave, or would he stay if JR offered an extension? This lame duck year scenario is an odd one.

That's the thing. I don't know exactly what his plans are for the team this year. And I don't know if the whole addition by subtraction approach is part of the rebuilding process or not. Because if it is, it seems like a very odd year to do it.

after the job Fox did in 09, I think it is questionable exactly how good of a coach he is today.

He stuck with Jake far too long. However, accepting that he was going to stick with Jake for whatever reason.....his coaching with a struggling QB was sad. Opting to stay away from the strength of the team and rely on a weak link often....when not forced to buy an opponent. As bad as Jake was, with good coaching Carolina still could have won more games.

Fox has some great aspects as a coach. He has been a very good NFL coach. I think this season Fox has a lot to prove about what kidn of coach he really is currently

      I dont think people realize how hard it is to find a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Byrce will not heart us to a SB but I do think he can manage to get us one or close..go all in on defense and change the Offensive passing game and play calls. I really think our biggest problem is our HC.  Take New Orleans QB for example, switch him and Bryce and I promise you it'll look similar or worse. New Orleans OC is levels ahead of Canales. And as far as the draft goes, in this division with as much rb talent as we face ..the answer...this guy:    Pick up a couple edge rushers in FA along with a corner and plug this guy in Rozeboom's spot. Defense solved. But only if we get a top tier rusher on that dline....jus saying

      I think I'm going to the game in Los Angeles vs Paraguay, and the England / Croatia game here in Dallas since my mom is British.  For decent seats anywhere in the building(s) it looks like it will be upwards of $7k for the two games.  Insane. Just for perspective, you could buy field level EPL tickets for any one of the top sides in the league, and it would be 10% of the price you'll pay for crappy seats at the World Cup.

      Meh… I knew this thread would turn into a Bryce/Tua comparison, when they couldn’t be further apart situations.   Dolphins catered there whole offense toward Tua, they brought in a coach that would run a Tua friendly offense, the went in got the best most explosive WR in the NFL and paired him the fastest WR in that years draft. Panthers have done the opposite, they went and got a Pete Carroll disciple who likes to run the ball under center, they drafted big slow WR who got little separation in college. Literally the polar opposite of Bryce’s scouting report coming out of Alabama.   Tua was a decent QB 2 years ago, but the concussions, lack of movement have caught up to him. He never had a great arm to begin with but now since he doesn’t want to get hit he’s taking the whole offense down with him.
