Matt Moore and the preseason...

Yeah but you also have to look at the defenses that we have played so far, Jets were #1 and the Ravens were #3 last year. The O-line will be fine, I am more worried about finding someone to return a punt.

But the Giants put up some strong numbers against that Jets defense.

I also believe the Oline will be fine. My concern is that it takes 4-5 games for them to gel again....seems to be a pattern the past few years.

We dig an early hole and this young team might not have the vet leadership to recover.

Yeah alot of the scoring came in the 4th quarter though and it was 13-10 Jets at the half. Hopefully it doesn't take that long for the Oline to gel this year because we need to come out of the gate strong.

We had protection issues last year as well...remember the eagles game when delhomme wasn't throwing picks he was getting sacked. The jets and patriots threw some big time blitzes our way and they just weren't prepared. I think that's where game planning will help out big time. The giants will be tough in week one...they like to blitz too but luckily we played them last season late in the year so I think the oline will be ready.

This year has really not been a typical preseason so far. Other than the obvious with Smith out, we have more new starters than we ever have under Fox. They are also approaching it differently. Look for example at how they rotated in receivers, backs, defensive linemen and secondary personnel on Saturday. The emphasis is not to play the starters in order to develop chemistry but to find out who those starters will be. Most years we put out a first team with 1 or 2 new guys at most. They have experience playing together and are just knocking off the rust. This year many guys are getting their only live work with the starters in their career. And we are rotating guys in to see how they do. For example I saw Jarrett in with Clausen late in the third quarter. If Jarrett is going to be the number 2 guy, why would he be in so late. Probably to develop some chemistry with Clausen and also to get some work since some of the first team reps went to Moore and LaFell as well.

Seems to me that where we might be pretty far down the road most years by the third preseason game, we are not nearly that far along this year and might not be that ready to play by Game 1. I initially thought the defense was going to lag this year but it looks just the opposite, the offense might lag even into the season.

Yea I noticed LeFell Played with the one's and two's the first game and Jarrett played with the one's and two's the second. They def are in a battle.

The OL was making mental errors as was the TEs.Someone has to pick up the blitz for any qb to be healthy.Everytime we seemed to move the ball a penalty or some other mental error would stimy the drive.Special team mistakes reduced our time of possession which also hurt.It really did not give either qb to get in a rhythm .I do not think at this point we can count on Edwards as a return guy so lets get someone who can get the job done and move forward.Whoever was playing center in the second half sucked and should not have remained in thered. It not give Clausen a chance to show himself when he is digging the ball out of the dirt.

After watching NO,NE,Greenbay and others our offense needs to come uo to speed quick to compete.

You guys say he plays when it counts, when has it counted more for a guy that is supposed to be taking over a team?

Are you kidding me? The preseason is nothing like the regular season. Right now, they are rotating WR's in and out like crazy just to see who can play, and there is no game planning whatsoever.

Come to think of it, I can't remember MM ever having a good preseason game as a Panther. I've heard that he did well in his first preseason in Dallas, but I didn't see it.

I am much more concerned about the O-line than MM. MM's best plays have either been called back because of penalties on the O-line, or the WR's dropped the ball. To be honest, DJ seems to be the one WR he can trust without Smitty being in there, but DJ keeps rotating in and out of the line up.

I think something that gets overlooked from the Jets game was that our play calling was oriented towards throwing to our young WR's just to get that time in.

There were around 3-4 instances where DeAngelo would run for 7 yards on first down then our next two downs we would try to throw. We're going to run on second down in those situations 80% of the time in real games.

Give Matt Moore Smith, Stewart, Otah, and situation oriented play calling and i think our offense will look a little healthier.

    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
