I just missed my fantasy draft

I missed one of mine too in my NFL.com league, but here's who I got:

Rivers

D. Will

MJD

Shonn Greene

Fitz

Bowe

TO

Dez Bryant

Ahmad Bradshaw

Brandon Jacobs

Owen Daniels

Saints Defense

Keep in mind that I have a RB/WR slot I can fill each week

I dropped Hardesty, Jacobs, Bradshaw, and The Saints Defense

I picked up Carolina Defense, Jabar Gaffney, Ben Watson, and Mike Williams (SEA)

That's why autopicking systems have made fantasy football somewhat idiotproof.

I'm going to propose in our work league next year...if you autopick...you get a kicker in the first 5 rounds....and second one in the next 5 rounds.

That wouldn't be fair. The computer basically picks the BAP, which is exactly what most people who know anything about football would do.

I picked in my Yahoo league, and this is who I ended up with:

Roethlisberger (Rd 12, took a gamble)

Cassel

Chris Johnson (I had the 2nd pick)

LeSean McCoy

Beanie Wells

Darren McFadden

*Kareem Huggins

Calvin Johnson

Brandon Marshall

Mike Wallace

Devin Hester

*Mike Williams (SEA)

*Mark Clayton

Jermichael Finley

Tony Gonzalez

*Michael Hoomanawanui

Adam Viniatieri

Barrett Ruud

London Fletcher

Charles Woodson

Jared Allen

Justin Tuck

Lamarr Woodley

Jairus Byrd

*picked up off waivers

Basically, my point is that there are plenty of people who can draft effectively, and no one is going to pass up on the opportunity to acquire the talent on my NFL.com team if the players are available. I don't think people should be punished for not being able to attend a live draft. That's why there is not only an auto-draft, but a mechanism to rank your own players in order of importance.

BTW, I have won 3 out of four times the last couple of years. I possibly could have won that other one, it's just that I didn't realize that KR yards didn't count when I put in Cribbs as a WR (he went off that week with 2 TDs, but I didn't get a point).

being fair is being at the draft if at all possible...

Autopicking doesn't account for people's tendencies to reach...to have emotional attachments to teams...to make mistakes.

Why not just let the system run the team for the entire year as well. As the great commercial said... "you get who you get".

If the system actually took BYE weeks into account and switched out players for you, I am sure that some probably would do that. But, what would be the point? It wouldn't be a game then, it would be an electronic competition without a human component. Moreover, if someone actually relied on the computer, then they would never win. They may get to the playoffs, but fantasy football championships rely on one's ability to take everything into account, such as injuries, match-ups and gut feelings about who to play and who to bench. I won my championship game by 70 points last year because I had the gumption to play Jabar Gaffney (granted, I still would have won, but probably only by about 15-20 points).

I wouldn't trust computer metrics to win at fantasy football. Taking the emotion out of it also leads to failiure IMHO.

I thought about keeping Bradshaw, but, really, I have 3 of the top 10 RBs IMHO, and I thought that Benjamin Watson would be a nice sleeper pick at TE. Moreover, I can only play 3 RBs at a time, and I can't see a time when I'd play Bradshaw over Williams, Jones-Drew or Greene. The way I see it, I will probably be playing 2 RBs most of the time, and another WR. I just can't see Bradshaw consistently outdoing Dez Bryant, TO, and/or Jabar Gaffney. Plus, he's fragile.

BTW, I forgot to mention that I also have Stafford as a back-up QB.

who did you end up getting?

Tom Brady

AP

Shonn Greene

Steve Smith (yes the better one)

Percy Harvin

Michael Crabtree

Tony Gonzalez

Matt Stafford

Austin collie

Brandon Jacobs

Donnavan Mcnabb

TO

Ronnie Brown

49ers D

Maybe not stacked but I wasn't expecting anything. I was pretty happy. I'm trying to get Reggie Bush off waivers and replace Brandon Jacobs. And I'm trying to get Massaqoui for Collie. Probably trade 49ers D for Panthers.

Is Bush the best you can do? Harrison ain't available? Keep an eye on Kareem Huggins and Peyton Hillis, and also Fred Jackson, Fred Taylor, and (dare I say it) Darren McFadden if still available, Bush not only has to fight for scraps with Thomas, but now Ivory. You might just want to keep Jacobs for a week or two.

    • Right...I think they've done really well. No one's going to bat 1000% but they've addressed areas of need and there's no comparison to the overall talent of the team now than when DC and then Morgan got the reigns. This whole season is about seeing how much of a step up can Bryce and this team make. If Bryce can't and last year is as good as it gets for him then at least we have a talented roster for the next guy. I think we're going to be good this season
    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
