Matt Moore's Biggest Weakness?

Where to start...

-Locking in on receivers almost every play (AKA tunnel vision)

-Throwing dead duck passes (all his INTs)

-Taking too many chances (throw the ball away when 5 guys are in your face!)

-Obviously can't read defenses (needs to learn to audible when they stack the box...run plays were getting stuffed early)

It was one game. But I'd put his performance on par with a highly drafted rookie QB like Sam Bradford. Made some plays, also made rookie mistakes. Potential is there to get better, question is are we willing to wait for Moore to go through his growing pains or will we just take our chances with Clausen.

Moore played like poo yesterday. Yeah, the OL was bad and the D let Manning throw pretty much anywhere on the field he wanted to, all that doesn't excuse Moore's poor play.

The biggest reason the OL was bad was Moore. He was unable to audible out of runs or complete passes early to make the D pay for stacking the LOS. They continually had 8 guys and sometimes 9 in the box to stop the run. Moore still could do nothing to make them back off. Don't tell me that the WR's weren't open, they were as open as a lot of the Giants WR were when Manning hit them.

Once we got behind in the second, the Giants just teed off on Moore. The OL didn't hold up well but you could tell that Moore does not react to pressure well.

Moore floated a ton of passes, was slow to go to his left, locked on to his targets too quickly and stayed with them for too long. He seemed to be hesitant to throw when the opening was there and waited too long forcing him to either go high and away or low and away with his passes. He did not lead his recievers very well, he either overthrew them or led them too far.

You could tell that the Giants had watched tape on him and had a pretty good scouting report. On the first pick in the EZ they left SS single covered on the left and floated all coverage to right/middle. Every single Giant in the area new immediately that he was going to the TE, they left Stewart uncovered in the flat. A quick checkdown there and that is 6.

Moore looked good in the 2 minute. I don't know if that was because they were in a Prevent D or if it was because he quite over thinking everything. He did the same thing later in the game when the Giants went into a prevent D though.

I just don't know about him anymore, you can't pull him yet though. He earned the starting role and you need to give him a look. Putting Pickles in right now is no good anyway, the OL needs to get sorted out before you can seriously contemplate inserting a rookie QB.

Well I wanted to make a couple of points so instead of making a new thread I will just put them down in here.

First off, this game was no where as bad as many of you are making it out to be. The first half was played well. Not great or probably even good but both the defense and offense was respectable. Moore had one bad play in the 1st half that everyone is referencing when he threw into quad coverage. Bad decision but one that many QB make. Some get away with it or the ones like Farve who somehow get TD's out of it. Bad play but not so bad that it's the end of the world.

The o-line also played okay the first half. They were pretty stout in pass portection but didn't really get a good push in the running game.

The defense got lucky the first half. No pass rush from the d-line and the secondary had a bunch of passes hit off of finger tips. The LBers were great.

The ST were the best group on the field the first half.

Now comes the 2nd half and this is where the issues truely start. Great defensive adjustment by the Giants. They recognized that the right side of our o-line was struggling and so they shifted their pressure from a across the middle approach to an overload on the left side of the Panthers o-line. Shwarts and Beau looked decent because they were lining up one on one with the defenders, and still struggled. The left side of the line (Kalil, Wharton and Gross) where staring down and sometimes having to block, 4, 5 and even 6 defenders with the blitz constantly coming to their side.

The bad part was that Shwarts and Beau were struggling so bad in the 1st half the the Panthers offensive adjustment at the half was to send both the TE and the FB to the right side to help leaving Kalil, Wharton and Gross on an even smaller island.

Basicly, the Panthers couldn't run the ball to either side because one was incapable to do so based on talent and the other side was being doubled blitzed on both the run and the pass.

This is also why some of you noticed Moore focusing more to his right than his left. You throw away from the pressure.

On top of these problems, Moore got a concussion during the first drive of the 2nd half. For those of you questioning if it happened earlier, yes, I remember seeing the play and saying that he was probably not going to be able to play but did. BAD decission on the team's part. By now they should know better than to try and play a guy with a concussion.

Also, the secondary stopped getting lucky. Although I will say the the corners for the most part played a good game. The Giants WRs are good and made some great plays in the 2nd half. The biggest issue I saw with the secondary was the lack of a leader. This was also an issue with the d-line. Beason is great and the "leader" of the defense but he can't be all things to all people. First and foremost he has to take care of the LBers and he did just that. But Godfrey, as talented as he is, needs someone back there with him who is a vocal leader and Martin isn't experienced enough yet and Gamble and Marshall just aren't the vocal leader types.

The run defense was stout most of the game until the turnovers kept them on the field too long. The pass defense by the d-line was non-exsistent the entire game. I like what Meeks has done for the most part but he really needs to trust his LBers more and allow them to blitz more. But none-the-less the d-lineman couldn't get anything going.

And to end my rant. The WRs actually played good IMO. Both LaFell and Jarrett had a couple of nice grabs and Smith was Smitty. If not for the other issues I think they could have been even more productive.

So there's my 2 cents.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
