For those of you wanting Trgo's head

No.

I give Turgo credit for turning athletes into @ssmunch. Gamble was taken in the first round due to his blazing speed. Yet we play soft zone. Lucas was picked up because he was considered to be a solid cover corner...yet we play soft zone. Peppers and Jenkins were/are two of the best d-line players in the league, and they both want out.

Signs are everywhere, you simply need to open your eyes!!!!!

Whoever is responsible for the defense must make a change.

THe defense has not been good since 2006.

2008- 18th in yards, 12th in points

2007--16th in yards, 15th in points

2006- 7th in yards, 8th in points

2005- 3rd in points, 5th in points.

Seems to be dowmward trend in the past 2 years. We need some significant changes in order to turn things around. We can't rely on our defensive line to get pressure anymore and the last 2 years are a testament to that. Without Peppers 14.5 sacks this year we would have averaged about 1.5 sacks per game. The only real difference in the increase in sacks was Pepper's increased production.

Without him and using the curent players and scheme we would be in a world of hurt to get pressure next year.

Don't you have to give him some credit for the development of Beason? For keeping the defense in the top half of the League despite countless defections over the last five years? For sticking with Thomas Davis? Same with Chris Gamble?

18th isnt top half of league.

The defense is too talented to finish 18th.

Beason would flourish wherever he is.

Developement of Thomas Davis? You mean the total mismanagement of Davis his first couple years in the league as they switched him back and forth between safety and linebacker?

Gamble needs to be allowed to attack the receiver at the LOS.

I love how Kiffen and Jim Johnson could keep up with the modern game and turdo a man almost half their age can't keep a team fired up and change to fit the game. Sad really. turdo has no imagination. And now his schemes are starting to drive players away. Nobody wants to leave Philly and TB because of the DCs. But Gruden might have drove Kiffen away.

How about giving Beason credit for his own development?

I agree. And by the same token, it's usually not the coach's fault when a player fails to develop either.

Hell, DeAngelo Williams and Deshaun Foster got the exact same coaching from the exact same RB's coach, yet one of them fumbled all the time but the other one didn't. It's always about 80% player and 20% coaching, IMO.

I don't think it's Trgo's fault that our DB's keep making mental mistakes either. You could make the argument that this didn't happen nearly as much before Tim Lewis took over as the DB's coach, but very few fans want to blame him for some reason. Even in that case though, I still put most of the blame on the players.

    • A team should always be putting at least one or two draft picks in at tackle and guard each season. Those guys just don't last nearly long enough and those that do get very, very expensive. In our situation, we need a little more time to see what the Icky injury works itself out to. Njiman performed really well out there and if this injury lingers into the next season, then he might do well enough there to hold the line for the team. Or we could draft early if there is a stud LOT in the draft when our spot comes along.  Honestly, we may be looking at replacing both LT and RT this season at this point. Moton is getting long in the tooth and while he deserves a shot to go for a playoff run with this team, I don't know whether we will really see him come back next season yet. It's still so darned early in all of this to say.
    • Because we had a ton of things go our way this year and made the playoffs with a -70 point differential.  This year was the outlier.  Regression to the mean is unavoidable.  So the team will have to significantly improve to beat 8 wins next year.
    • One thing I noticed in this game (and I say this as the biggest of Bryce Young haters) is that Bryce did do a solid job of throwing into voids in this game, and leading receivers on crossers.  There were a few times where I was thinking "where the hell is he throwing it" only for a receiver to appear out of nowhere and catch it in stride.  Mike McDaniel might be a guy that can squeeze a little bit of production out of the otherwise ghastly Bryce Young. His offenses heavily feature that style of passing game.  I've heard Idzik is drawing interest from other teams.  If so, bringing McDaniel in at OC would be a stellar move.  I know it'll never happen, but fun to think about.
