Appreciation For Jake Delhomme

Very intelligent post. As an outsider it seems as if Jake is not the QB that he once was. He is inaccurate and makes terrible decisions. I have to believe that when you play teams that have truly strong run defenses that they will stack the box force Jake to throw and that is not going to be good.

First, if you can look at a post that mangles the English language that badly (I can't even figure out some of the points, it's so bad) and call it intelligent that tells me a lot about you.

Second, regarding facing a team with a strong run defense, your hero Brees fared worse against Minny than Jake did.

Drew Brees has never lead his team in a 4th quarter comeback even though he's had plenty of chances to do so. He threw 2 4th qrt INTs againt the Bucs last week for a loss, he threw 2 tonight in a loss and yet he's a MVP candidate because although his team has a .500 record and are out of playoff contention he racks up yardage. And Romo folds under pressure. While Delhomme consistently comes up in clutch situations, makes the plays that absolutely have to be made, plays his best games during the postseason and finds ways to win.

Yet there are plenty here who would trade Delhomme for Brees or Romo in a heartbeat without a 2nd thought. If Delhomme would have had a game like either Romo or Brees had in their last two games there would be crowds gathered round with pitch forks in hand ready to lynch Delhomme.

Before blackandgold10/WDK gets to you, he's going to point out that Brees in fact had his first 4th quarter comeback win against the Falcons last weekend. Of course, the fact that Pierre Thomas had an 88 yard kick return on the game winning drive and the Saints then ran the ball in without Brees completing a pass makes the stat look a whole lot better. :D

People have a hard time differentiating between "passers" and "QBs".

They also like icing and not cake.

Luckily, the Panthers brass and Jake's teammates get it.

...and that's a good thing because the fans were clamoring for the icing and instead got...

I'll happily eat cake and be content rather than eating frosting and never being satisfied. :)

Funny how Brees struggles a ton on the road and has about the same INT% as Jake yet people call him the MVP. Why? Because he passes "prettier". I mean really what else is there?

There's no doubt Weinke was a better PASSER than Jake. Hmmm...where is he now again? LOTS of QBs are better PASSERS, though I think that after he gets his accuracy issues straight and I DO think they are partly due to the surgery in one way or the other, he will be fine as a passer. Never elite, but fine.

That, and Brees has only just under 40!!! passing attempts per game with barely a running game to take TD's away from his stat line.

Did he really? Ok, well that stat held true up until the Falcons game so that's one in 3 seasons.

Something else Delhomme has that Brees and Romo don't are playoff wins.

    • Yes, but Bryce Young is what amplifies that concern for me for a super green HC and OC.   it’s all and marriages by Tepper IMO.  Canales and the new OC probably would have a better time getting their O running with a vet QB that is a natural fit.   again, I’m not arguing Canales and Morgan should be catering to Bryce at this point.  Just pointing out how pointless drafting Bryce looks at this stage.  And I don’t disagree you either can play or can’t and the O is irrelevant at this level.   I mean fit matters at this level.  Everyone is too talented.  Fit makes or breaks careers.
    • Excellent post, Jackie Lee.  I watched every second.
    • Yes you have said all of that as well. I was just saying having concerns about a one year OC transitioning to HC and trying to call plays like you have stated before as well implies he could be in over his head this first year. I’m not calling you out or anything. It’s a concern and I’m sure there will be some growing pains along the way. As for the Bryce thing, he is either a NFL QB or he isn’t. If he doesn’t look any better this year, then I think we simply move on and let Canales pick his guy. I think Beck has a big arm if that’s his type. Trying to build a very unique roster just to see if he can find success isn’t a good idea IMO. If he looks much better this year then sure you can cater a little more to his skillset.
