Possible death of my terrilbe HP laptop...

So today I was typing my lesson plans after school and suddently my laptop screen goes blank. The backlight is still on, but I get nothing visually from it. With no audio playing at the time, and no handy shortcuts, I coudln't get anything to play to see if it was a glitch. So I power off and reboot. Same result. Nada.

A bit of history. I've had issues with the power supply for a couple of months. I've gone through three adapters over the past few months because the HP designed jack is a piece of crap. Otherwise, aside from running hot, and on vista, it's been pretty decent and reliable.

So thinking about things after the screen went blanks, I unplug it and let it run on batter juice incase it's the DC jack (possible I've read). I get a sweet light show that reminds me of an MP3 visualizer, execpt that it's verticle and horizontal bars that run across the screen in a whole bevy of colors.

Oh Huddle knowledge base of infinate l337ness, is there some majical way (or even better, cheap) way to tell my laptop to work again? I think it might be the video conncection between the screen and the rest of it. I have it hooked up to my TV currently so the off board video is working, but not the connection to the screen. And since my TV only accepts 1024x826 (or whatever it is), I get no widescreen pr0n or LOTRO! halp!

Or am I better of yanking my data off of it, mag swiping my HDD, and taking it to be g-cycled while I save up for a better computer?

What model #?

I have a dv5 and I like it, but like you said the HP power supply sucks. Also, mine has an AMD processor so it constantly runs at a temperature somewhere between a volcano and Hades itself. I think most of the hiccups my laptop has gone through have been a result of either this heat issue or the power supply.

If you still have your warranty, contact HP asap. If not, still contact them and see if they'll at least help you determine the problem and what your options are from there.

Hrm...new developments...

So, I've been researching on line since I got home last night. Its a Dv6000 (6810us).

So did the obvious checks that I could. I checked the inverter and its good. I checked the LCD for physical defects. I checked all the connections. I have yet to crack it open. So I closed it up, turned it on, and you know what, its working again. I'm thinking that one end of the inverter got loose.

But here's the interesting part. It will randomly go blank, and will not return. I think that either way, there's something messed up with the backlight, or something else with the screen.

Oh well, time for a new computer...

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
