Ok, so I am well aware that the season is REAL young and there is a LOT of hockey to be played between now and April, but how are we feeling about what this season can potentially be?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything outside of highlights on ESPN because my college doesn't have FSS or VS (for some odd reason...) How are we looking? Mid-speed and physical or fast and exciting?

Based off of scores and what I gather from stats and what not, we're getting shots, just not getting in the net. Defensemen could play better, really the whole defensive side of the game could be better. Special teams has been average. Skinner has been impressive in 2 games. Cam Ward is...well, Cam Ward.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but not a bad way to start a year. I feel like we're only going to get better each week. As of now, we're sitting on top of the eastern conference and the rest of the league with those 4 points and sternly on top of the division. Looks good after a couple games, IMO.

Discuss.

We're good right now. Part of having a young team is inconsistency though. I don't think anyone can doubt we have the talent to compete for a playoff spot, but we are going to have to remain at least moderately consistent.

And if Wardo can stay healthy for the season, I certainly like our chances.

I was unable to see the second game due to a whacked out schedule but, in the first game the 'Canes were sloppy in the first and part of the second then seemed to gel throughout the rest of the game. We'll know who is who come December when everyone hits their stride.

I think the up coming west coast trip for the Canes will give us a better feel of how this team will be this season. I am very excited about the start and the 4 pts but after watching a few other games ( pitts and philly, caps and devils ) the Canes have work to do.

Cam will be vital to the Canes success this year. This young team can not lose their confidence or it may be a long season.

And Rutherford said this morning Skinner will be with Canes the remainder of the season. Won't be sent down.

Love the 4 pts early on cause as we all know every point counts when it comes close to playoff time. The Canes have a pretty tough month ahead as far as schedule goes. With all that said GO CANES!! Nothing like Carolina Hurricane playoff hockey!!!!!

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
