Potential Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Not convinced he'd get the job. An interview perhaps.

Been thinking more about some of the stuff Gantt has said about throwing out some of the old rules and this next coach needing to be a special guy. It makes me lean more toward an offensive guy, and maybe even a college guy like Harbaugh. That's not to say defensive guys have no shot at it, but I do believe this next coaching search might not completely be what we're used to.

yeah, a month ago i brought that up to gantt b/c of the way that hurney had been talking about the league getting more of an offensive lean to it and it made me think that they would be heading in that direction for a HC and he blew it off saying something about thats why they hire OCs.

the new HC will most likely be

1) young

2) offensive minded

3) very energetic and electric

4) very aggressive

we aren't going to be seeing a john fox redux, in fact i don't think it will look much like anyone we've had before. i don't know that it means harbaugh, but i certainly think he'll be high on the list of prospects.

i'd be surprised if richardson isn't willing to open up the purse strings more to get the right guy. i really think he feels bad about what happens this year and he may go overboard to try and make things right with the fans and get the team in better shape.

Adam Schefter was on Mike and Mike in the morning and they were talking head coaching finalists for Dallas. They mentioned Fox going there...Gruden...Garrett staying depending on rest of season. When they got to Cowher, here's where it got interesting. Adam basically said that Cowher would NOT go to a team with a micro-manager like Jerry Jones around. Doug Gottlieb mentioned Cowher to the Panthers and Adam's response was "Carolina would never pay him".

That was a sad moment for me, because I knew it to be true.

I guess its obivious to think maybe we should go after somebody different next year..I kind of feel that the coaching search isnt going to be what we thought.Mainly because Carolina mainly had defensve guys and this year our offense was our greatest Achillis Heel.So what should we do? Well if you really think about it it might be best to go after an Offense guy.

So i will say on the list you gotta put Brian Schottenheimer first, just because he is young and on a good team. But he is also hot right now as a coordinator.Im already kind of thinks he is over hyped but i have to put him number 1. His offense is aite but its not as good as i thought it would be.

Next i will have to go with Harbaugh, i know that he is an college coach and everything. But he actually have the best chance to get it.he is young and has a good offense He use good formations and He runs the ball alot.Thats what we will need. Also he passing offense is really good also. The reason he should have the best chance is he built a not good stanford team into a really good one. They put points on the board and they play good defense.

Mike heimerdinger is also a good choice the reason why is he is very expierence an has been in the league for a while. The odds against him is his age.But maybe Carolina will give him a Look.

Jason Garrett might have a chance depending on what happens in Dallas. If jason Garrett can turn that team around into a better team then they are, he will get notice by alot of teams. He also will have the chance to decide to stay in Dallas or move on.But if he does good more likely he stays in Dallas.

Also just a reminder we cant count out the defensive guys..

you shouldn't be. cowher is no where near worth the amount of money some team is going to shell out for him. we'll get just as good or better results going with someone younger and more aggressive.

Cohwer is a great coach but is he worth the 7 to 9 million he probably will command? people might not like hurney but bill will want complete control over ALL personnel of this team, if he can't duplicate the success he had with the steelers we could be worst off than we are now. one of the reasons he's not still in pittsburgh is cause they didn't want to pay him his market value or give him the control he wanted. if we were to go coach/gm i would rather go with somebody like parcells who has done it everywhere he's gone

Haha, I love the tags on this thread... Great read Mr. Scot.. good work once again!

You realize you're credited in the initial post, right? :D

Im not convinced either, but the coaching search is getting to my head. So Im picking one and sticking with it.

I'm going the opposite direction.

I may have a favorite, but I'm not going to be so tied to that favorite that if we hire someone else I'll say "we blew it and we're gonna suck".

Any of the candidates listed could be a solid pick, or a lousy one. We can (and will) form opinions based on what we see of them, but none of us here is Miss Cleo.

(at least I hope none of us is; that'd be really weird) :sosp:

I'm not fretting over not getting Cowher...I'm fretting over the realization he's right about Carolina being cheap.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
