Fiat currency has already failed many times in the past in the US. The goverment switched many times to avoid hyperinflation, so while you can say they didn't actually "fail", failure was imminent.

I'm too lazy to explain why your understanding of fiat money is wrong. I would read some more articles if i were you.

But if you are telling friends and associates that "EVERY fiat currency since the Romans first began the practice in the first century has ended in devaluation and eventual collapse, of not only the currency, but of the economy that housed the fiat currency as well" as one of your articles state, I assure you that you will come across as dim and uneducated.

Why not buy a foreclosure in your area, fix it up and rent it out, or sell it in a couple of years.

No luck needed, but thanks. I'm not really interested in property at this point because I don't want any additional debt and I don't think prices are done falling yet. I might would consider a REIT since I can do it pretax, but not buying property directly.

Gotcha. Being in the business and all, I still believe that if you didn't buy at the very tip top of the market, housing is still one of the better long term investments out there.

It probably is. I'm really not willing to buy real estate with current threats of lawsuits against the big banks anyway. Who knows where that will go and what effects it will have on the housing market.
