Taking plays off...who does and who doesn't?

People get the impression that because he stands his guy up at the line of scrimmage that he is not bothering to impact the play. Fact is he is holding the point of the srimmage allowing LBs to get to the ball carrier without having a OL sitting on their face. It is clear that our DL is told to look for run first and then look pass, because as soon as the play action goes through or the Hb stays in to protect all the DL try to release and converge on the QB. Watch the Ravens they do EXACTLY the same. When we know it's a pass people are happy because Peppers pins his ears back and goes for the sack, but both he and Johnson are often shown outside because we have no inside pressure.

People who think he takes plays off are foolish and have no understanding of the discipline he has. He is, on the field, a model professional.

Maybe instead of takes plays off it would be better to say he completely disappears during games...even consecutive games

As does every single other DE in the NFL unless the DL is full of physical freaks. Fact is if a DE is on a hot streak then teams start to gameplan for them and it makes their life VERY difficult to make meaningful plays.

I remember one play against the Saints where Peppers was on completely the opposite side of the field and he burn the OT and tore round and almost caught Shockey from behind. A lazy player would have just stayed engaged with his blocker because he couldnt impact the play.

Ware and Merriman get an advantage because they do not have to engage blockers before diagnosing the play. As soon as they see the Hb not take the ball they are sprinting to the QB. I really think people see these OLBs and think that DEs should be able to emulate them.

Maybe Pep is fed up of being disciplined? Maybe he does not want to have to engage blockers all the time and just wants to make highlight plays?

Okay, let's start there. Jared Allen had one game this year where he had 0 tackles and 0 sacks. His team lost. Peppers only had one game this year where he had 0 tackles and 0 sacks, and our team won going away. Who fuged their team? Also Jared Allen had three, 2 game stretches without a sack. Peppers only had 1 two game stretch without a sack. Justin Tuck had 3, 2 game stretches without a sack. One of those was actually a 3 game stretch.

So, I ask you, what the fug are you complaining about?

Look at the source. You're talking about Buckner. He always had a big mouth and was jealous of Peppers from day one. Then you go and take Buckners career numbers and put them beside other DT's and you tell me what the f*ck he was doing in the NFL.

The fact of the matter is that most teams that played us gameplanned for Peppers. They doubled him on passing downs over half the time, and ran away from him the other half. Teams don't gameplan for players like Buckner, Rucker, Brayton, etc. etc. They do gameplan for Peppers. And yet Peppers numbers are still in the upper echelon for DE's.

Look, take off your UNC homer glasses for a second and try to come back to reality. Buckner is not the only person who has ever said that Peppers takes plays off, that's something that's been discussed about him since his college days. Jenkins alluded to it last year also. Pro scouts have said it. You would think some of his teammates would have come to his defense throughout the season to stand up for him, but I can't recall that happening. I know though, everybody is just making stuff up, it can't possibly be true.

How did Abraham do in the playoffs?

How did Allen do at the begining of this season?

What has happened to Tuck since the middle of the season?

All of the top DEs have spells where they can't make plays. It is because teams move the plays away from them. The other teams make it impossible for them to make plays.

UNC glasses? Man shut the fug up. I couldn't care less where we get our players from.

As to the rest of your post...who are these other players that say Peppers takes plays off? What kind of contributions are they making to their team? Let's air it out.

While I don't understand why you're defending this clown, I will assert that this is a straw man. No one is question Pep's raw talent or ability; if you lack the work ethic to commit to every down, you'e undesirable. Period.

So who does have the work ethic? And define that work ethic for me.

What do people consider disappearing? 0 tackles? 1 tackle, 2 tackles? Peppers and Allen both had one 0 tackles game. Peppers had 2 1 tackle games, Allen had none. Peppers had no 2 tackle games, Allen had 4. Peppers had 8 3 tackle games, Allen had 6. Both had 5 4+ tackle games. Seem pretty comparable to me, and don't forget Allen plays on a significantly more talented D-line than Peppers does.

I'm sure once he is off the team you will see players step forward....as of right now he's still on the team

hmmm... just because you have decent #'s doesnt mean you dont take plays off.... watch patrick kerney, that is prolly the highest motor guy i have ever seen, the guy played all out every play, an i even hated him cause he played for the falcons, but i still give him props for playin his heart out and leaving everything he had on the field every week.

there are tons of LB's i could name, even dan morgan never took plays off, he just took seasons. : ) haha
