Do the saints have a rival? does anyone care about them?

Up until last year, hating on the Saints was like hating on a kid with downs syndrome. Now though, I can't stand those bastards. It's a combination of Sean Payton and the swamp tards/ex-Patriot fans that now follow the team and claim to be life long Taints fans (Yeah you DrewBreesIsGod, you bandwagon piece of dog poop).

I also hate the Falcons and the Bucs with a passion. Screw them all man.

Good rivalries are a result of two teams being consistently good when the play (DUKE-UNC, PATRIOTS-COLTS,etc). So for NFC South reasons, panthers vs falcons in the vick era was pretty intense and bucs vs panthers this past decade was pretty fun to watch. But the panthers saints has been one sided for years. Saints vs Falcons is good due to length of being in the same division.

CAR vs TB

CAR vs ATL

ATL vs CAR

all bring out emotions

but when saints play no one gives a poo. Would we even care if they they didnt win the bowl?

I actually used to support them a little but now they really annoy the crap out of me, especially the fans. If you win a Super Bowl, it's proper to celebrate for about a month or two & that's it, not 6-7 months as they did.

We don't have the same rivalry with the Saints as we do the Falcons and Bucs because the Saints were horrible for so long. For most of the current NFC South's history, they just haven't been much of a threat to us.

Of course, that's changed in recent years, and I think the rivalry is starting to intensify.

OK, I've got to jump in here. To be accurate, since '95 (Carolina's first year) the Saints and Panthers overall records are almost identical, as a matter of fact the Saints have a slightly better reg season record in that time frame.

It's a little misleading to say "they just haven't been a threat to us". I think that the reason it feels that way is because by coincidence, it seems the Saints have been bad during Carolina's good years and visa versa therefore the two franchises haven't butted heads in many big games. There were a lot of meaningless games played between the two teams late in the seaon. 2006 and 2009 come to mind immediately when the Saints had the division sewed up, but there were also years where Carolina was leading the division and the Saints were playing out the string.

Most of the other stuff is pretty accurate. The Saints hate the Falcons more than anyone in the division by far, and yes, Saints/Falcons did fight it out to stay out of the cellar in the NFC West for many years. As most of you know, the pre 1986 Saints (before the ownership change) was one of the most maligned franchises in sports. What most don't realize is that despite limited post season success, the Saints overall record since '86 is very respectable.

    • That depends on where he's at because if you look at his first 3 seasons before he got sick he had 49 rec as a rookie followed by 56 and then his pro bowl season he had 103 rec. If he's somewhere between seasons 2 and 3 then that wouldn't be bad at all. We'll have to wait and see but from the few clips I've seen and the comments I've heard and read I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. Personally, I'm really pulling for him and I think he's going to be the comeback player of the year.
    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh?
