Medal of Honor

that is awesome and a huge honor for sure!!!

couple things though...why did it take 3 years to get it and it surprises me that it's been so long since it's been awarded.

I don't know why it takes so long. Too many hands it has to go through once it leaves his division commander.

He was the first one to receive it while still living in 40 years. There have been others who died during the fight. One of those, SFC Smith, I served with in the same battalion. Never knew of him except when I heard that he died and then the next day his replacement died as well securing the Baghdad Airport.

I'm sure there were others deserving of it but the standard that was set for "close combat" type situations didn't change. We don't fight those kinds of wars like Vietnam anymore. They need to change with the times.

I saw the interview on TV. Really touching story. The Tali's were dragging off his SGT to be tortured or killed or worse and he was with his squad fighting. He ran up to them and took out one then chased and took out the other. There were a few soldiers in the fight and they saw this and fought harder to give him cover.

The SGT died but Giunta said that he knew they came for him and got to him so he was at peace. Giunta aslo took a round or two to the torso but his vest kept him from getting majorly hurt.
