There is logic in rooting against Panthers victories at this point

December 21, 1997: The 3-12 Colts play the Minnesota Vikings on the road in their last game of the season. They end up losing that game 39-28 which gave them the #1 overall pick rather than the San Diego Chargers.

April 18, 1998: With the first pick in the NFL draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Peyton Manning, quarterback, Tennessee.

How would history have been different if the Colts had won that last game of the '97 season? Peyton Manning likely would have been a San Diego Charger and Ryan Leaf an Indianapolis Colt.

Looking back on that final game of the season, do you think anybody in the Colts organization really wished that they had won that game? Losing that game launched the Colts into a decade+ of success with a Super Bowl championship.

So if it gets to the last month of the season and we're still tied with the Bills with a 1 in the win column, rooting against the team is perfectly acceptable. Andrew Luck could transform this team and this city with the right coaching staff in place.

It's all about the greater good. Lose the battle, win the war. If you want to root for Panthers wins if we're 1-11 and have a chance at Luck, I'm not going to bash you for that. I just hope you're not going to bash those of us that are start actively rooting for the opponents late in the season.

You're right, how foolish of me? It would be way cooler to finish 3-13 with more random nobodies at quarterback for the next decade than it would be to finish 1-15 with Awesome Andrew Luck leading us to Super Bowl trophies in the next decade. God, I am such a terrible fan. How dare I not want that 3-13 finish rather than 1-15?

This is what ive been trying to say.. all along. Panthers arent Detroit or Rams - They have the personnel and the right ownership - At this point the NFL union needs to look at the panthers and realize how Serious owners are about the Lockout - Its seems inevitable until it actually happens and Richardson sent out the message; im willing to f$%ck with my fans so dont think i wont sit a yr out.

We need the Best chance at picking the best available player in the Draft next year.. Yes i know its Painful but i beleive this team can turn it around quicker than most people think is possible. :)

GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How incredibly simpleminded. The sacrifice strategy is commonly implemented by everyone from chess players to military leaders. Give up a meaningless win now to achieve a LOT more wins later.

Were Colts fans rooting against the Colts winning meaningless games in 1997 bad fans for wanting Peyton Manning? Which fans had it right back then? The ones pulling for the Colts to win a meaningless game so they could draft #2 and get Ryan Leaf or the ones pulling for a Colts loss so they could get Peyton Manning which led to a Super Bowl trophy?

      Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.

      Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players

      This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
