It's a U.S. op so we could get our carriers into Chinese waters as the next step in the dick-measuring contest (aka: Cold war) we've been involved in with China since the 90's.

It wouldn't be WW3. There are two likely scenerios in which WW3 could happen in the next 30 years. One is the formation of a middle eastern coalition. The other is a war with China. One other scenario would be an the discovery of massive oil/mineral reserves in Antarctica leading to a landgrab scenerio.

I don't think WW3 with China is likely, since both countries are so economically dependent on each other. An economic war and a series of proxy wars are much more likely.

So if the U.S. does pursue military action against NK, mark it down in the history books as the first of those proxy wars.

Old Henry Ford had it right over 75 years ago. He said, "Peace through trade."

You have to wonder 3 things:

1) What would have happened if the US hadn't cut off oil and scrap metal to Japan prior to WWII? Would Japan still have entered the war on the side of the Nazi's or stay neutral?

2) If Truman hadn't order the atomic bombs to be dropped when he did, Russia was posturing to come into the War with Japan. Presumably to possibly grab the island for itself. (A portion of which they took over and never gave back.) Would the US and Russia have joined forces?

3) What if the Yankees would have signed Fidel Castro to a baseball contract back in the 50's? Would Cuba have been out 51st state?

    • I probably would have become a casual Hornets fan if Cooper ended up there, but the NBA just solidified my apathy for its product. Hornets also got shafted when Lakers got cold feet on the Mark Williams trade. NBA is corrupt and that alien-headed Silver is the kingpin.
    • Most analysts from what I've seen are projecting next year's cap as closer to $298M. We saw a $24M increase this season, $31M increase last season, and $16M prior to that. There's also the inevitable cap casualties... A'Shawn Robinson being cut saves the team $8.5M. Damien Lewis would save $9M. BB3, Jewell, PJ2 all would save $5M each. Tremble and Mike Jackson could save $4M each. It wouldn't surprise me to see the team make a few moves that end up giving them closer to $50M in cap space to start 2026. I'm less worried about next year's cap space due to the upcoming UFAs for the team: TMo, AT, Tuttle, Wonnum, Nijman, Mays, Corbett, BC, Dowdle, Rozeboom, Martin, Rhattigan, Jansen, Scott... the only FAs I'm seeing on Spotrac outside of TMo that are must keeps are ERFAs Coker + Demani (so long as TMo's knee is fine, of course). 2027 on the other hand is going to be the offseason for Bryce's bonus option with Icky being the most significant UFA. PJ2, A'Shawn, Josey, MJackson, Tremble, Dalton, DJ Johnson, Zavala, and Bartholomew are the only other current FAs then. I'm of the opinion that they are all in on next season and if it doesn't go well, it's being blown up and starting from scratch. They're currently estimated to have $130M in free cap space in 2027.
