oblivion is the aids that is killing rpgs

No it's consoles. But, I feel you.

Oblivion wants to be Daggerfall and I commend it for trying to but given the limitations of the consoles it can't even come close.

consoles are the aids that is killing gaming

Yes and no.

It's the developers who play toward the Console crowd and make adjustments to games that don't need those adjustments. Also if it wasn't for consoles, gaming wouldn't be what it is today. It wouldn't be the multi billion dollar industry that it is and you wouldn't be getting titles that spend 40 + million on development.

I understand what you're saying, as I hate playing a game that's been simplified down just so the casual gamer who owns an xbox360 or PS3 can play it with out being confused about what to do next.

It all goes back on the developers that force their development team to do something they don't want to do.

Great example of this is the difference between Morrowind and Oblivion.

A funnier and more recent one is the difference between DA and DA2 or ME 1 and ME 2 and whats going to be ME 3.

I mean it's not that difficult to make a game on PC then port it over on minimal graphical settings to the PS3 and 360. Is it more difficult the doing the opposite, of course it is. That's besides the point and isn't how games should be done.

Yeah I love it when a production company spends 40 million on cutscenes, specular highlights, filters and advertising.

Who needs more than 5 hours of gameplay?

That's a product of the business environment of gaming. PC gaming was headed down this road long before Consoles.

The reason for that is the cost that it takes to push graphics and system capabilities is growing more expensive everyday. A game that cost 6 million to make 5 years ago, now cost in the upper 30 - 40 million dollar range.

I mean just look at the first Crysis game, it cost 22 million to make and the development studio didn't make enough profit off of it. Sales were very disappointing because of piracy and then Crysis 2 comes out and it's on Consoles so they can make money. Piracy is the reason that Crysis 2 wasn't made only for PC's.

If anyone is to blame its PC gamers who don't buy games and just download them. It's one of the major reasons that major developers and publishers don't make PC exclusive games anymore.

PC gaming is on better legs than it has been in years thanks to direct to download and digital rights management services.

I don't two squirts of piss about major productions in gaming. They're all overrated, overhyped, overpriced and really about some kind of silly gimmick that makes the game so easy there's no point in playing it to begin with.

I'll take just about any indie PC gaming company over any of the big boys.

PC gaming is on an upswing and does appear to be healthy again.

I also agree about indie developers, there are very few major developers that I still like or that I buy games from. I love indie games, most of the games I play on my PC or my PS3 are just that indie games. I think the last disk based or downloadable game I bought from a Major studio was DA 2 and I was majorly disappointed in that game that I won't be buying another DA game.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
