If Luck doesn't come out, Fairley is our guy?

Take Luck if he comes out. Too man are saying he's a franchise QB (I know, there's always a Ryan Leaf but I'd play the odds on thsi one).

If he doesn't come out, dangle that pick and see what we could get trading down. If we could get a top 5 first round and a 2nd round pick, I'd go for it (maybe packaging Goodson with that deal).

If Luck comes out, the choice is obvious. But if he doesn't, you take whoever would help the team the most...regardless of whether the talking heads consider it a reach or not. This isn't about winning on some mythical paper scorecard, it's about bringing in the guy that would help the team the most.

Since comparable players will be available through at least picks #6 or 7, there wouldn't be the value for another team to trade up to the #1 spot for if Luck doesn't come out. And we wouldn't want to drop any lower than that point anyway, otherwise we risk losing out on one of the top players that would help the team the most. And no way would we even consider Bowers, unless we don't re-sign Johnson. CJ and Hardy are looking like they have the potential to be a very good DE tandem for years to come, and Brown seemed to be developing into a solid pass rusher prior to his injury.

I'm hoping to solve most of our problems with a great free agency period. Since we have money to spend, our first target should be Logan Mankins. It is assured he will be a free agent after this season, so he should be easy to bring in if we through good money his way.

Another guy I'm looking at is Nnamdi Asomugha. He won't be easy to convince to come here, but giving him a sizeable contract shouldn't be a problem either. The harder we hit the free agent market, the more convincing we could be to him as a contender.

McNabb looks to be a lock to come out of Washington, but I don't know if he would come here to compete for a job at QB. (Especially if we draft Luck or trade down and draft another QB aka Ryan Mallett.):D So we look at either bringing in McNabb or Kyle Orton if he comes out. Those are really the only two QBs I like as a veteran QB coming in.

Now who I'm mentioning now is a big stretch to become a free agent, but his team could possibly tag him, making him possible trade bait. This guy, Haloti Ngata would be a big pick up if we got him. He is better the Jenkins, not just a guy that can take up space in the run game but can also pressure the QB with consistency.

So if we could get Mankins, Asomugha, McNabb or Orton, and Haloti Ngata, our only draft concern would be a franchise QB. The GM that can bring these guys together needs to be considered for the Hall of Fame.

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
