What does Broncos' hiring of Fox say about Panthers?

I didnt see any other teams clamoring for an interview with john fox.

That could possibly mean they were overlooking Fox. What people forget is that Fox was a screwed-up kickoff away from a Super Bowl ring in all probability.

Fox has a resume that has him getting blown out as a D-Coordinator in the Super Bowl and coming very close to winning one as a HC. 3 winning seasons out of 9 isn't that impressive...he merely offers some semblance of stability, which Denver hasn't had since Shanahan (who IMO Denver would have been better off keeping if they've turned to John Fox now)

Many believe Elway made Mike Shannhan (Elway > Shannahan)!

I am happy with who we have, happy to see Fox have a job, happy to start putting a staff that has more than just a desire to win on the football field. I really hope we start seeing a staff getting developed sooner rather than later.

I'm happy for him too.

...and it says Denver was looking for a "safe" hire after the Josh McDaniels experience.

I think that this is really what it boils down to from a Broncos perspective.

I think that it's too simplistic to say that it means nothing, Mr. Scot. There is some underlying dynamic. Reflecting on the other side of what Catman was saying, perhaps the Panthers were tired of the John Fox security blanket of old-style, conservative football, and desired someone whose philosophy was more in tune with the times. I hope that Ron Rivera has the innovative, adaptive, forward thinking, and contemporary vision of football that has evolved today, but still is true to the fundamental principles of football that have stood the test of time. If he is a teacher like he says, then perhaps he is a great learner as well, because the best teachers are also the best learners (IMO).

the Panthers organization even more odd than it has appeared to be the last couple of years, from the renewing of Jake's contract, the allowing of Pep to freely walk away, the refusal to deal Williams and/or Smith before the trade deadline, to the jettisoning of so many vets at key positions.

EXACTLY... the Front Office is completely screwed up and it seems to get worse every year

Hurney staying as GM is a disaster

BigCat's press conference was a joke

I dont care if you have a BMW (coach), if you put a Pinto transmission (Hurney), and a Fiesta engine (BigCat) to run it... do you really think you're gonna have a successful run?

What, if anything, does Denver's hiring of John Fox say about the Panthers as an organization? Many analysts agree that Denver is one of the top coaching jobs in the NFL, so John Fox is arguably in a much better situation today than he was three weeks ago. Large media market, large fan base, rich history, beautiful city, blah blah blah...makes Denver the place to be. What more could a coach ask for?

Now, I believed it was just time for the Panthers and Fox to part the ways, but looking at how the last couple of years have gone down, isn't there an argument that, on some level, it makes the Panthers organization even more odd than it has appeared to be the last couple of years, from the renewing of Jake's contract, the allowing of Pep to freely walk away, the refusal to deal Williams and/or Smith before the trade deadline, to the jettisoning of so many vets at key positions.

What say the Huddle?

Well the smart Huddle fans say...'BWAAAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAAAA! Elway F#$%ed up massively!'

Did you hear the clowns PC? Draft players THEN decide what to run? Hell I know HS coaches smarter than this tard. Best coaching jobs around? Mike Mularkey, Gregg Williams etal TURNED THEM DOWN for interviews. Didn't even want to interview for the position. The Denver job is a friggin joke. They don't have enough guys to run the 3-4 or 4-3 effectively. Pat Bowlen used to be one of the best owners in the NFL, now I think he is losing it badly.

Man our front office has made some bad moves. Not going to argue that. But my god with as many people from other parts of the country living in the Charlotte area you should be able to talk to some fans of other franchises. Buffallo, Cincy, Cleveland. There are some shity organizations out there and I dont think we are one of them.

    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
    • Moton is a class act.
    • Sure, that is possible. That’s what, an extra 55 yards a game on average and 7 more TDs? What if he’s just 15th?  I imagine they would extend him in that situation due to the belief that he’ll keep trending up. maybe a 3 year contract to prove he can be top 10? Sounds like a Tepper plan.
