Vince Young a possibility/opportunity for us perhaps???

So we should count you among those who are desperate to follow a pattern that has shown nothing but failure? Wouldn't you rather find a mentally stable human who has a chance to win a title?

After the results we had with Carr, Hurney wouldn't take another chance with a quarterback who by all accounts is less than stable to put it mildly.

Didn't he give Jake Delhomme a huge contract after a horrible playoff game?

Jake's problems weren't emotional. They believed the playoff game to be an aberration. A reasonable belief as every QB has bad games, but in this case horribly wrong.

This season, I'm not in favor of dratfing any QB because we already have two young prospects and I can't see going to camp with what amounts to three rookies.

The better strategy is two veterans, preferably smart, steady low-risk guys who can serve as a placeholder. Guys like Billy Volek, david Garrard and Marc Bulger make sense. Kyle Orton does too but it's highly unlikely he comes at a price we want to pay.

With Luck out, there aren't any franchise QBs in the draft, and none in free agency either.

That's one need what'll have to wait until next season.

If there is a next season I say we keep Jimmy as the starter so he can either prove that he's not a scrub or suck and get us the #1 pick again. Re-sign Matt Moore because he is a veteran and is better than Jimmy, not a lot better but he is better. Tony Pike is a skinny scrub.

Then draft Andrew Luck.

We beat that one to death last offseason. General concensus was it was a cap move and enticement to take a serious pay cut in 2009. Everyone including him didn't think he would be see the majority of the money. he actually got less than half of it.

I know I was just pointing out the fact that Hurney did sign an unstable QB after David Carr. You have to admit Jake lost his confidence in that Arizona playoff game. The whole 2009 season he looked like he was just slinging it hoping the 2003 Jake would come back.

That's almost my plan. I also want us to sign a guy like Volek, Bulger, Garrard or someone similar.

That way we take two vets and two youngsters to camp. Let 'em duke it out and take the best three into the season.

I'm just imagining the conversation as some here would see it.

RIVERA: Hey Jeff, it's Ron, your old teammate from the Bears. I'm coaching the Panthers now.

FISHER: Hey Ron! I heard. Congratulations. What's up?

RIVERA: What can you tell me about Vince Young?

FISHER: Well, let's see. When he was on our team, he was immature, thin-skinned, was once on a suicide watch, and in his final game with us got pissed at the fans and threw his pads in the stands. He's got great physical skills but lacks maturity, leadership and intelligence. Funny thing is even with all that, he almost cost me my job. Me and the other coaches had to go explain reality to the team owner just so we could get him shipped out of here.

RIVERA: Oh...So, do you think I should take a look at him for the Panthers?

FISHER: Sure! Hey, what could it hurt? After all, you've got other solid quarterbacks in camp so that you can absorb the hit if he fails, right?

(yeah, that'll happen) :willy_nilly:

Like anyone, including you Mr. Scott, really knows what VY/Fisher's relationship was or even Rivera's/Fisher's. For all you know Rivera might think Fisher's a slimey snake. Just because he knows Fisher doesn't mean he would automatically side with Fisher. Could just as well be the exact opposite.

No one really knows.

I just think it's funny how everyone here keeps blowing up VY's few negatives way out of proportion but very seldomely if ever acknowledge the many positives he has as a player.

Here' a clue. The majority of NFL QB's have issues. Some went to prison. Legends with families and grand children send naked pictures of their genitalia to women. Superbowl winning QB's RAPE other women and drive motorcycles without helmets way to fast causing them to almost loser their lives(shouldn't Ben be considerd suicidal too?).

Yet, VY threw his pad in the crowd, had a breakdown and got into it with his coach and all of a sudden he's Charles Manson!

Give me a freaking break!

He's not Charles Manson, he a mediocre QB with a bad attitude.

How many NFL QBs went to prison, exactly? :P

You act like some of us want Big Ben, Favre, or Vick. Not all of us do.

A lot of people around here wanted and still want Vick. My point is there are elite QB's right now with far greater mental instability and worse character issue and track record than Vince Young.

People just ignore it.

How many quarterbacks can you name that have had an entire coaching staff go to their owner and tell them "we need to dump this guy"?

And for the record, Roethlisberger should be in jail.

Who, exactly, does anybody on here want us to get that comes with more mental instability than Young?

    • Nothing wrong with starting to look for bodies early. It's a long injury filled season. I doubt we get through unscathed.
    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
