Cam Newton wants to be Big Ben

Disagree. Since the player likely doesn't have money when he's working with him, the coach's pay is likely tied to his draft position as an incentive deal.

You make me a first rounder, you get a better payday. Thus when he's talking to GMs, they are likely to hear the same thing. Also, any GM who calls a player's personal coach for input on drafting him should be fired on the spot.

Your whole argument is highly speculative and assumes he would mislead GMs to make him go higher. There is no reason to believe his contract is incentive based at all. Lets stick to the facts.

If the guy works with pros like Roesthlisburger he isn't going to jeopardize his professional standing by misleading GMs and professionals in the business. He will get paid whether Newton is a top 5 pick or top 30. There is an incentive for his coach to do alot with Newton to prove how good the coach is in fixing flaws. But to assume that he would inflate his opinion and hype him is likely incorrect. We aren't talking agent here but a coach whose opinion is obviously respected around the league.

He also worked with Cantwell and Pike.

It's not like this guy only works with superstars.

And thats pretty much how I see Newton coming in. Not starting day 1 on opening day, but eventually being bumped up into starter halfway thru the season like Freeman did. That way you take your lumps and learn on the fly as a rookie, then come back your 2nd and 3rd year with that experience under your belt. If Tampa didnt play Freeman his rookie season, I dont think he would've performed as strongly as he did this season.

I'd be cool with this scenario as well.

Playing behind even Matt Moore for half to 2/3rds of a season might be helpful to learn the speed of the pros.

Only thing you see is a BLACK QB......nothing else matters in your eyes.

For the record, I would not be opposed to Newton....if we had a late 1st round pick. Guy is NOWHERE near a Top 5 pick.

Only thing you see is a BLACK QB, nothing else matters in your eyes Hatter. You have a weakness, only thing you believe in is "privilege" Hatter. You dont know what hard work and earning things is about. If its not given to you in life, you dont have it. I love how you dont give Cam Newton any credit as the best QB in this draft Hatter. Thats how I know he will work hard and become a success despite your bias and lack of imagination as a fan. Carolina has nowhere near a QB on their roster, so being arrogant about picking one when you were just on board with it not even a month ago speaks alot about you. Andrew Luck really exposed alot of fans on this board man. The kid yall wanted so bad stabbed you in the back and made you look very transparent.

Dlinemen can COMMONLY run a 40 in 4.5? Are you SURE you want to stick to that statement?

Linebackers I could maybe see running this fast... but still... if he can keep up or beat an LB in a foot-race, we're already upgraded at the QB position.

Yes, Linemen often run 4.6 in the forty. Actually, Cam has been clocked at 4.7 also so his forty time is very debatable. He's really no faster than anyone on the field and it showed in the Oregon game. They had good college speed all over the field and shut his running game down.

The point is that you took what could arguably be his roughest game all year, a game in which he was playing hurt for most of the 2nd half, to the point he got X-rays on his back, and used that as a criteria to show how bad he is.

If you want to have a complete analysis, go take his best game, probably the SEC game, or his Ole-Miss regular season game, and do the same break down.

Till then, you've just shown your bias.

Not everyone can see the SEC championship game so if I do a breakdown it'll basically be worthless. If you think I'm biased please tell me where I was wrong in the analysis of that game and of his skill set. I'm not using that game to determine his skill set or lack thereof, I'm using that game as examples to point out his issues. I'm not basing my opinion of his skills based on that game alone, but it's a good reference point for people who can't watch every game.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You don't draft a giant project because he's of marginal need to your team. There are better players at better positions of need for this team. When you miss with a top 5 pick, it sets your franchise back a long ways. Cam Newton is riskier than other players at positions of need.

Totally wrong. Pepper's only ran a 4.68 at the combine and is regarded as one of the fastest D lineem in the game. Beason who is regarded as fast and mobile ran a 4.72. Newton has run it between 2.5 and 2.7. Expect after combine combine work for it be in the 4.5 to 4.6 range.

Unless you are getting coaches film and have a copy of the playbook, your break down of u-tube and TV film is a huge waste and shows nothing. Ask an expert on breaking down film like Pat Kirwin.

You do draft a guy who is critically needed for our team particularly when the draft will be before the free agent period. Missing on a top 5 pick sets you back no further than missing on a top 15 pick. We drafted Davis at 14 and he took several years to develop, didn't exactly set us back. What sets you back is putting all your eggs in that basket and not looking at an upgrade for several years. If we bring Newton in and then bring in a veteran, we essentially have the same model as Green Bay who sat Rodgers for 3 years.

    • I mean I think its a bit disingenuous to call basically anyone here a casual fan. I don't think the casual fan creates a profile then logs into it, in the offseason, to comments on mundane offseason topics.. I dont think anyone on here would be considered a casual fan. That said, I get your point. My POV is from the player. They sign this contract, move their family because of these contracts. When Clowney came him, we basically had a coming home party for him.  So yeah, I get why we did it and I know that ultimately the owner doesnt 'save' money, but I can feel for the human side of the player, which is why I want them to get all they can while they can.
    • My guess is the NBA will either send Flagg back “home” to the Northeast in Brooklyn or Washington, or San Antonio so that they can keep building around Wemby. If I was a betting man I would take the odds on the Spurs. This definitely feels like a #1 pick that they will rig.
    • In fairness, she is ensuring she is talked about.  People really aren’t going out there way to bring her up.  It’s some weird poo.  She would end up getting talked about given her actions if she was 40. Bill realizing some of these high end “companions” got a game of their own.  That’s what I don’t think Bill saw coming.
