NFL Network video: Trent Green, Jamie Dukes and Rich Eisen all discussing whether the Panthers should use the number one pick on a quarterback.

Should Carolina draft a QB?

I'll save you the suspense. They all say "no" :nonod:

Green says it specifically because "That guy who you should take at the number one pick" doesn't exist in this draft.

(guess they must all be racist)

"Jake is married to JR's daughter"

Yeah the city of Charlotte would never believe the Panthers are racist and show favoritism at the QB position at the expense of their franchise. You guys are so delusional. You're so convinced if we draft Cam Newton we'll be a laughing stock when we already are the laughing stock! I just watched my 2 QBs combine for 9 TDs and Im supposed to view bringing Cam Newton as a "risk"? GTFOH! Everyone sees the double standards now. Everyone knows whats most important to us now. Its not winning and its not getting the absolute best talent we can at QB. Thats certain.

I'm such a racist, yet you don't even know me.. why don't you show us all you're not here to push a troll-like agenda and grab a beer with me the next time I'm in Charlotte..

I'll bring my 2 best friends who are black, and if my other homie from Bangladesh is in NC, I'll bring him as well.. you can quiz them on what it's like to be friends with a racist...

but I'm sure you'll ignore this... or at least blow it off... prove to me you're not a clown.. put something real behind all this bulls.hit...

I guess if you keep flinging it, something will stick.

I don't know about the rest of that post, but the sentence above is a great point. Dafting Cam Newton is not going to make this team any worse than they already are, that's for damn sure.

"He can't make us any worse" is not a good argument to draft any player, at any position.

I don't think the point of a #1 pick is to not make a team worse.

He most definitely could make us much much better in the long run. Of course, that goes against America's need to have everything yesterday and on a golden platter, but that doesn't mean Newton wouldn't be a sound long term investment for those of us with a little patience and common sense.

And once again, Andrew Luck will never ever be able to do what Cam can do with his feet, but Cam can certainly learn to be a great passer, so the ceiling much higher with him.

Do people really think that any QB is going to get us to the Super Bowl next season? I've got news for you, you're going to have to wait a couple of years no matter what.

Uh huh.... What is most important then?

I guess its what you consider reputable. BR has had some good info and some bad.

People also blew off that about JaMarcus cause they fell in love with his size and big arm.

I DO have questions about Gabbert, btw. Just more about how he handles and recognizes pressure and how it impacts his throwing motion. I do not think that his weight is really an issue at all if you believe what people say about him in the gym.

the only accurate answer to any of this is it all depends on what our racist scouting department, coach, and owner think about Cam Newton..

***crickets***

to KT on a real offer to chill rather than make assumptions on people he doesn't know..

I'm not especially concerned with America's needs. I've given plenty of thought to the Panthers' needs though.

If our top two options at quarterback are both guys who aren't really going to be ready for full-time starter status for two or three years, then what do we do about this year?

If we sign a veteran quarterback who's capable of starting this year, then why do we also turn around and use a high draft pick on one? We've already got a high pick on roster, and regardless of anyone's opinion, he's not going away just yet.

Throw in that trying to get two different projects with less than a year's experience ready for the season at the same time is already enough of a challenge for a coaching staff. The possibility of three is way too much to ask.

We already have essentially two rookies on roster. We draft another one, at any round, and that's three draft picks used on the quarterback position in two years. Not a good strategy, especially for a team that not only doesn't have a bunch of extra picks, but is already down one rather high pick.

We need veteran options, not another rookie, whether it's Newton, Locker, Mallett, Gabbert, Kaepernick or anyone else.

A different year, different circumstances, and maybe it makes sense.

But not this year :nonod:

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
