Cam Newton Public Workout

cam newton is a reach at #1. end of story. his skillset isn't good enough to be a #1 overall pick. he's got the exact same things going for him that jason campbell had going for him when he came into the nfl. so why select someone at #1 that will likely be there at #15? that doesn't have any common sense to it at all.

Jason Campbell? Really? He wasn't even close to Cam Newton. Also, there is no chance of the Panthers picking at 15, so that's a moot point. You either take him at #1 or you don't take him at all. It makes no difference if people think it's a reach if that's the player the Panthers believe will help them the most in the long run.

you guys are going to be really disappointed when cam newton is not a panther. a lot of you guys will then jump off the bandwagon and deny you ever thought cam newton was going to be good in the NFL when he falls flat on his face in the pros.

the point in saying you don't take someone #1 if he's there at #15 is shown to demonstrate what kind of prospect he is. he's a jason cambell. same skill set, similar size.

I don't exactly see the Campbell comparisons. Was Campbell near as much a threat to run in college? I also thought he was smaller (compared to Cam, still obviously huge) and didn't have the strongest arm.

That was some time ago though so I could be wrong...

There is no comparison. They're both black and have strong arms, but that's where the comparisons end. Campbell was never even close to being the athlete that Cam is. Hell, there is nobody on the Panthers roster, regardless of position, who is as good of an athlete as Cam is, when you consider his size. Peppers was the only one you could compare him to and he's gone. There is not even a TE or WR on this team who can compare to Newton's size and speed.

If you don't want Cam Newton, you are racist. If you disagree with this assertion, that is also a tacit admission that you are a racist.

Guilty :hurray: but only to the hood rat types .. the well spoken mind your own business type i like , the real reason i don't want him .. is just plainly i hate Auburn and Alabama and id like our team to stay auburn and alabamaless

Well first of all, Cam is not a nutjob like Vince is. Secondly, he has already proven that he can handle controversy and adversity, and that he won't run and hide when things get tough. Lastly, Cam is smarter than Vince Young as well as being bigger and stronger. This dude is 250lbs with 6% body fat, so he could most likely play at 260 or so and not lose any speed or quickness.

What did he do at Florida?

None of you know what Cam can or can't do in the NFL. Right now he's the best QB in the draft. Awards and achievements do mean something at some point. He played against the best college football had more than any other QB in the draft. And he won. There are no FA's available worth taking. No QB's in the draft worth taking. Our starting QB is terrible. We have new coaches, Why not rebuild with Cam Newton? IT doesn't matter if he's 1st 10th or 155th they all still have to produce. I still haven't seen anyone produce a good reason not to draft him.

Most people with a better understanding of the NFL and the quarterback position don't agree with that statement.

I guess those would be the same people that said Clausen was a pro ready QB. I pay no attention to the talking heads. I can judge football players on my own.

I thought you were stating that as fact but if that's your opinion than I fully respect it.

Also, not everyone was as high on Clausen as it's been portrayed on here.

Not even every talking head, let alone every scout, was high on Clausen... if the scouts were, he wouldn't have fallen so far. Even McShay said repeatedly he thought Clausen was a 2nd round talent, though he ultimately thought someone would reach on him.

    • That's part of being patient too. Not rushing players into roles they aren't ready for. Make them earn it. If you convince yourself that "so and so" needs to start because they were a first round pick, even though they have done nothing to earn it, you have set up both team and player for failure. You can convince yourself all day long that "there is no substitute for game experience" but if the guy can't do his job in practice, he can't do it in a game. Not consistently, anyway.  Teams like the Steelers, the Ravens and the Packers ROUTINELY bench rookies to start off with and no one bats an eyelash. Even if the team is losing. Because that's what they do. They have set the precedent. The players have to show they are ready. Then they get their chance.
    • Let me provide you with some food for thought. Before this "now era" of the NFL, QBs were allowed time to develop. Everyone from the GM to the fans had more patience. QBs were simply better in the old because they were afforded the time to sit, observe and learn. It's no wonder that guys we threw away, or simply didn't want, have had varying degrees of success elsewhere.  Some Huddlers were talking crazy about Jordan Love and Lamar Jackson---just crazy...
    • I think the JAG debates are largely people having vastly different definitions of JAG.  The OG JAG LB debate was James Anderson.  And James Anderson is probably going to be ahead of Shaq on my alltime LB list (it's really close though).
