U.S. Bradley to Aston Villla

U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley is heading to the English Premier League, sources said.

The 23-year-old will play the rest of the European season with Aston Villa on loan from his current club, struggling German side Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The loan to Aston Villa will end in the summer, leaving Bradley with a year on his current Gladbach contract at the start of the summer's more active transfer market.

The loan also gives Bradley -- who had a breakout performance with the U.S. team at the 2010 World Cup -- a new lease on his club season.

Good for him. We need more of this. The key to the growth of soccer in the US is not bring washed up superstars to the MLS, its sending our best players outside and getting them exposure on a bigger stage. I know he has been in Germany, but this is another level and its great for our young national teams development. Its kinda sad, I already cant wait for the next WC but I will have to for three more years.

Now we just need to get Jozy playing up to potential and Renken getting experience on the pitch. We are on our way boys!

I'll just pretend I didn't read this thread since it's about soccer.

Yeah, though soccer literally is the biggest sport world wide. I guess America's opinion of the sport is the only one that really matters though right?

Ya know its really funny to me. People will sit and bash soccer because its 'boring' or 'soft' but they wont say anything negative about the PBA (professional bowling association) or Billiards. Get off your high horse, you don't have to like soccer, but don't bash it and act like the sport sucks. Because truth be told, it doesn't. Ask the rest of the world... better yet, ask your great grandchildren as it will have become one of the most popular sports in the next 30 years.

Ya i agree w/ the post about getting our players into other leagues like epl and la liga. Aston Villa wil have a tough time with Man U this week, though.

I don't know.

This is a whole new team since Bent showed up. Even Robert f-ing Pires scored today!!!!!

United has been struggling as of late, down 2-0 to Blackpool, then down 1-0 to Southampton today before they came back and won both.

We were up 2-0 on them earlier in the year before we blew it and settled for the draw.

I would not be shocked one bit if we get 3 points on Tuesday.

But of course this is wishful thinking.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
