It will take newton 2-3 years to get it in the NFL IF he ever does. Next wasn't Dilfer the clown that said Bradford was over rated and wouldn't make it in the NFL?

Mayock cautions all that this kid is a one read and run guy that played in a gimick offense in college. I know Gus Malzahn, been to clinics with him and his offense is NOT suited to prepare kids for the NFL.

Newton is a one hit wonder, he should have stayed in school one more year and proven he could be this good a 2nd year in a row, but he didn't and IMHO its because he knew he couldn't.

Is that why Ben Rothlesberger chose Gus to keep him up to speed while he was suspended?

I don't think it will take him 2 years. I would say 1 year tops, and he could still probably make plays while he's learning. Anyway, I'm more than willing to wait a year, because the sky is the limit for this kid once he does figure it out. Then you're set for the next 10-12 years. To me, drafting a QB is all about the future anyway, not what he can do for you in the first year.

Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out where all of this "he has to play right away" crap came from in the first place. That kind of thinking has probably ruined more QB's than anything else.

I agree with you on the stupidity of having to have QBs play their first year.

Newton has a great set of physical tools. The real question is will he be willing to put in the work that it takes to develope. He isn't a pro QB right now. He just isn't. He will need to be groomed and that will take a lot of work on his part.

On a positive note, Newton is a blank slate. For an offense that is really being created, that is a great thing as Chud would be able to build this offense around Newton's strengthes and then focus on the development that is needing in Newton to complete the system. If that makes sense.

Like I've said for a while now. He isn't a #1 overall pick based on what information we have. But that doesn't mean the Panthers shouldn't take that chance or that he won't turn out to be a great QB. Hate to make this comparison but it's a lot like drafting AE in the 3rd last year. Theres a good chance that in three years that pick looks brillent but the first year it looks foolish. Great physical talents that if developed properly will mean great things for the Panthers in the future.

I'll tell you what, I'm starting to talk myself into drafting him #1 overall the more I talk about it...not there yet but...

...or maybe he decided to come out because he knew his draft stock would never be higher?

OK, this is driving me crazy. How can people keep bashing him for the "one read" offense ran in college, and then say he needed to stay in school for another year?

And BTW, there were definitely times when he went to his 2 and 3rd passing options, so we need to stop pretending that this kid is too stupid to make decisions on the field. There is no reason whatsoever why he can't learn this stuff, so long as he is willing to work...and he is proving right now that he is willing because he's already doing it. He is doing classroom and film work along with all of this fundamental training. What else can he do? What more can you ask him to do, short of proving it in an NFL game, which is not possible right now?

I swear, I believe that some of you would rather have Delhomme back than to shoot for greatness.

That maybe true... but it does not mean he can not learn an NFL system. That is what our scouts will have to find out before draft day is if he is capable of learning and making that transition. Just because he can't or doesn;t now, does not mean he can't or won't in the future.... Just means he is a higher risk top qb right now.

But sometimes you have to take a swing.... I'll rather swing for a game winning homerun 3 times and strikeout, than to stand at the base and never take a swing for the fence and just get struck out looking.... But that's just me.

yeah, I hope he can sit a year, if not 2.. may not be the popular choice, but there's no need to rush him onto the field..

pretty sure people are raising their concerns rather than saying he is stupid.. it's a knock on every QB in that situation, not on Cam himself.. I wouldn't say it's a personal attack like it sounds your taking it..

does that mean anything? maybe not, but people do have a reason (however slight) for raising it..

So you're going to pass on someone just because they won the Heisman?

I'm just throwing this out for discusion but history says he prolly will not be what we will need in a QB just off the Heisman stat. I happen to like the kid and if we get a rookie cap i'd say he is worth us taking him number one. I mean Marty is trading early round picks and takin crazy @ass flyers in the draft recently so this pick would be more logical. I suspect we will trade down but that is another discussion.

I really want to see him in the combine and am curious about his wonderlic stacks up. It should be interesting.

Bradford won the Heisman, so what does that mean?

I think too much weight is put into the Wonderlic score, some pretty darn good QB's have scored poorly on the Wonderlic like McNabb (14) and McNair (15) while Alex Smith scored a 40.

They are concerns, but it sure sounds like some people have already made up their minds that he's gonna fail to answer them. He did this workout to prove that he's working hard, yet people keep saying they have questions about his work ethic. I mean, what else can he do?

Bradford is the only exception and the jury is still out on that one. I agree with you on the Wonderlic, im just curious more than anything...
