2011 NHL Trade Deadline

Fug the Leafs. Damn I hate them (worse than Atlanta and Florida combined...). Worst part? I don't even know why.

I think Toronto is still seen by many to be "Canada's Team" despite zero success since the Canes beat them in the conference finals in 2002. They are essentially the Dallas Cowboys of the NHL, which could explain alot of your anger.

Atlanta and Florida are just a nuisance in that both are always a tough fixture for the Canes, but both markets are so apathetic about hockey it's hard to really stir up any hatred at all for them. I save that for teams like the Caps and Pens.

other than local markets, Canada is really split between Montreal and Toronto. Huge numbers of fans no matter where you go. Montreal is typically a love em/hate em team and the way the national media has licked the balls of the leafs over the years, they certainly are as well. Wasn't until the last year or two that Hockey Night in Canada, which is a Canadian staple really, would constantly show the leafs every fricken Saturday, regardless of where/who they played while the Habs were only shown in french. That has changed, but I know for many, the whole force the leafs down your throat thing pissed alot of people off.

The rumors swirling around the potential deal of Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ian White are just that -- rumors. At least for now.

Sure, defenseman Joni Pitkanen and forward Erik Cole will be unrestricted free agents at the end of this season, but it appears Carolina GM Jim Rutherford is getting inquiries about another pending UFA, the 26-year-old White. White has 2 goals, 16 points and a minus-6 rating in 55 games in his first season with the Hurricanes.

White is in his fifth NHL season.

"Something is in the works and it's pending … if it happens it'll happen within the next 24 hours I guess," Carolina coach Paul Maurice told the media following his team's morning practice at Prudential Center in Newark on Wednesday. "If it doesn't, he's with our hockey team."

Rutherford, who told NHL.com last week that he isn't outwardly seeking to make a deal, is fielding offers. He just might not be too quick to pull the trigger.

"There are deals out there and if you just played in a fantasy league and wanted to be a fantasy GM, you could make great hockey deals," Rutherford said. "But you can't because you have to factor the money in. Somebody has got to pay the bills."

I don't understand this.

There was two separate trades.

White for a 2nd rounder

Joslin for Futer Considerations

If it was a salry dump I would think the deals would be togethor and their would be no future considertaions.

Cause if I am not mistaken Future Considerations could be cash or a prospect. If this is the case we would not be dumping a salary because we would be paying them money as in an I owe you situation. Also I believe if they want a prospect it has to do with how well Joslin plays so if Joslin plays well enough the Sharks could essentially take a player of the Checkers which is not good considering the Checkers have some of the best prospects in the AHL.
