Anyone store food?

As someone who grew up with a grandma and dad that stored food this is what they did except the pasta.

If you are buying from the store just put the stuff in a empty closest. Vacuum seal the pasta's and put the bread in the freezer.

Dont know how the bread didnt become soggy after the freezer but it didnt.

Potatoes need a cool place and put lime on them. When you are ready to eat some just wash them.

i freeze bread all the time... works great.

lime on potatoes... interesting.

Think it is lime but cant remember. Would keep the potatoes for the whole year til next season. We canned alot of stuff when I was growing up. The only things we bought at the grocery store was stuff that we couldnt make or produce cheaper.

Acorns?

Humans cant eat acorns they make you sick. But we did have black walnuts and chestnuts. But the chestnuts started getting chinese worm disease. Black walnuts was good but a pain to crack and had a messy soft shell. I used to sit in the basement and crack nuts with my dad when I was a kid.

Always good to be prepared... Welcome to the club...

I've started dehydrating my own foods and keeping a decent stock on canned/packaged foods with a longer shelf life... Anything in a can will virtually retain its nutritional value LONG after the printed "use by" or "sell by" date... It may not keep the flavor, but it keeps what you need for the most part... Hormel Chili, dried beans/fruits/vegetables, Spam, etc... I've not gotten into the canning process, yet... but I plan on doing so once I get my garden going this spring (which I also recommend anyone planning ahead do)...

Keep in mind that you can also stock up on other consumables that will be comforts should the shelves in the stores empty... stuff like toilet paper, matches and lighters, alcohol and cigarettes (even if you don't smoke or drink), and stuff like that will be more valuable in a worst case scenario than money will...

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
