Scott Morrow deserves better (and so does the team)

Recommended Posts

Morrow isn't ready for the big time yet. We know this now. Nikishin either can go or he can't. Run him again if Chatty is out. If Nikishin blows it, oh well. Morrow is just too much of a liability right now.

The team shouldn't have to carry the dead weight. Nikishin wasn't a world beater in his debut but he was present and didn't actively hurt the team with his minutes.

Nikishin was a net positive for me because he was at least physical and his shot was an absolute bomb. Yea he made a few mistakes but not nearly as many as Morrow made last night.

Agreed. He shouldn't have to break into the league in the playoffs against the two most physical teams we'll play, but here we are. I think Nikishin is just Russian enough to deal with it. Let the boy go. Have Orlov and Svech shouting at him all night. It'll be fine.

I actually think that last night was so bad that he doesn't see the team next year unless injuries happen and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being part of the trade bait to fix the second line.

Ehhh. He's a kid. Doubt that they hold it against him THAT hard unless he really can be big trade bait. I think the plan was to run him in the ahl next year and call him up if somebody goes down and get him ready to come up permanently once Orlov's contract comes up. Kinda hard to play at ECF level at 22 when you haven't been up much

Burns is likely getting traded in the off season for something to fix the second line and to make more room for Nikishin to slot in. No way we hold him at his pay for his production, not with Slavin getting paid eventually.

I miss Fast 😞

Burns is a FA so he's probably gone either way.  But yea at 22 Morrow's still pretty young and could probably benefit from more seasoning in the AHL.  I don't think Morrow being part of the main roster was part of the plan for next year.

Yeah he could be a pretty sizable trade bait. He's one of the higher rated defense prospects in the NHL.

I'm in a ton of pain but I'm pretty sure that both Orlov and Burns are free agents after the season ends.

Idk why I thought we had Orlov until '27 and burns until '26 but here we are

Got 35m in cap space and really the only true needs are a 2nd line center, 3rd pair defender and a goal scoring wing with size.

I didn’t realize Ghost was a 3 year contract.  He's relatively cheap and has his moments but it feels like we could find a better player.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
