Name 3-5 Realistic Free Agents (*additional QB ramblings)...

A couple of names I've not seen mentioned are Hunter Hillenmeyer LB Bears, Antonio Cromarite CB Jets and Eric Weedle S Chargers. All have ties with Rivera.

I also like Barry Cofield for our NT and Johnathan Joesph and Chris Carr for CB as well as Todd Collins for QB. And for those blasting Collins, remember he spend years as nothing more than a backup under Al Saunders, one of Don Coryell's original assistants, in Kansas City. He knows how to play the role of mentor and help the starter prepare for the week. Don't underestimate the importance of knowing how to be a backup QB. Some are better at it then others.

i don't think he'll be getting anywhere near the payday he feels he should be getting..at least not here.

i'm sure they have a couple other CB FAs they are interested in. it would be crazy to thihnk they haven't at least looked into asomugha. there's also a couple FA CBs from baltimore that would be an upgrade like chris carr and josh wilson. they won't be keeping both of these guys since they drafted jimmy smith.

Totally. From the recent Hurney interviews, it seems they have guys on their radar already and I'm thinking we make a run at Josh Wilson or Chris Carr.

DE- Andre Carter, Mathias Kiwanuka. These would be good affordable pickups and show Brayton the door.

DT- Brandon Mebane, Barry Cofield. If there tenders are lifted after the lockout. Amobi Okoye, if he's released. Tommie Harris just the the RR tie.

CB- Josh Wilson, Chris Carr, Carlos Rodgers. Rodgers has hands of stone but is a good corner.

Another position alot of people are not talking about is OG. I would love to bring in Harvey Dahl, Davin Joseph, Marshal Yanda maybe even Jared Gaither and kick Otah inside.

A line of Gross-Wharton-Kalil-Dahl-Otah would make big running lanes for our RBs and buy Newton plenty of time in the pocket.

do the panthers need a DE???? if Johnson stays, they have two good ones, Carter would likely come to Carolina because they run a 4-3. i think the panthers should look into signing Okoye if he's released and i think they should sign Tommie Harris soon. As for CBs, Carlos Rogers may have hands of stone, but he is a good corner and i see him leaving Washington (who i hope replaces him with Eric Wright.)

upgrade brayton for depth.

not a big need, though. DT, CB, and OL are the biggies...of course getting a QB with a little experience would be nice as well.

I don't know if I would go after 4-5 FAs. If I had to pick 5, here's my list:

1. Billy Volek, SD - one of the better backup quarterbacks.

Rejoins Rivera in Carolina to start, mentor, and buy Cam (and Clausen) time to develop. Being reported as probable that it will happen.

2. Zach Miller, TE Oak - caught at least 56 passes in each of the previous three years.

Yeah, I know - we just picked up Shockey; however, Miller is 25 yo and would offer a long(er)-term answer than Shockey.

3. Ray Edwards, Vikings - had a tremendous year, registering eight sacks and shutting down the run on his side.

We have some pretty good DEs already, but if we could potentially improve why not. Money shouldn't be that big of a problem.

4. Marshall Yanda, OT/G Ravens, 26yo - had a pretty good season, surrendering only four sacks. He's capable of playing both right tackle and guard effectively, so that versatility should help him this offseason.

I know we drafted some 'meat', but we know this guy can play. If the price tag is tolerable and we have a shot, why not throw our hat in the ring?!

5. Sidney Rice, WR Vikes - one of the league's top young receivers. He caught 83 balls for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns in 2009.

Again, we have already drafted some fine young WR talent, but if I have to complete the 5-player FA 'Wish List' it would include former Gamecock Sidney Rice. No way the Vikes will let him walk, though.

Realistically I would seriously go after 2-3 names on this list, at least making offers to them.

I could dig Marshal Yanda :hat:

well, that's one reason i think Kiwaunka doesnt come here. i think he wants to go to a team where he will start, example, patroits or Redskins. i could see Andre Carter sign here like i said earlier.

i can NOT see Zach Miller coming here, i think he either re-signs with the Raiders or ends up in Miami.

Ray Edwards will not come here, he wants to be paid handsomely and he will likely want to go to a winning team, for some reason, i think Jacksonville lands him though because of the lack of a pass rusher.

i DO think Sidney Rice COULD come here if Carolina goes after him and of course pays him. he's a local talent and may want to go home.

don't want volek mentoring cam or anywhere around him, for that matter.

only thing he knows how to do is tell someone how to be a back up and almost relevant at some point. he also knows how to whine and cry for a trade when asked to compete for a job rather than have one given to him.

seriously...not a good option.

You contradicted yourself there.

if Volek does come he will be a backup and in my book, not many vets are going to sign on being the temp starter until Newton takes over in week 5. i think Volek will accept being a backup to Newton though.

Jacksonville is closer to winning than Carolina is. the Jaguars have a strong running game, good defense and if healthy have one good pass rusher and lack another one, i just cant see Edwards coming here. first off, they dont need a DE unless they dont re-sign Johnson and second, i think he goes to a team like Jacksonville, BUT there are other teams i could see him in like Philly and even Denver.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
