Cowboys interested in Cam Newton??

What is with you and QB rating be the be all and end all? Romo was top 5 in a bunch of categories that year. He was a probowl player... and he'd be a HUGE upgrade over anyone we have had and anyone we could possibly have this year in the draft or FA.

Did you seriously ask why people weren't going at Brees in college? Uhm, I don't know, MAYBE because Drew Brees didn't go #1 overall? Drew Brees was not seriously considered for #1 overall?? AND he did it for more than one year and threw a poo TON? Not all spread QBs OR spread offenses are the same!

...holy sh*t, were you actually comparing Brees at NO to Cam Newton at Auburn? :willy_nilly:

Good grief. The only thing I'm saying is that Cam is doing exactly what he was coached to do, and so is Drew Brees. It is a fact that New Orleans has a lot of very short throws in their offense, and they are not checkdowns, they are the first option for Brees. His numbers, like every other WCO QB's numbers are inflated a bit, because they rely on a lot of short passes with a lot of YAC's. That's not a knock on anybody, it's just the way it is.

And FTR, I do believe that Cam Newton is pretty darn close to where Romo was coming out of college. People forget that Romo sat the bench for 3 years before he made his first start. The difference between him and Cam though, is that nobody has ever accused Romo of sitting because he was too dumb to learn an NFL offense.

Ugh, they would have to give me more than anybody has even mentioned so far, because Cam Newton would put that team over the top. I do not want to watch the Cowboys win another Super Bowl. They already have Rob Ryan, who will have their defense in the top 5 very shortly, and they are loaded with WR's and RB's.

Im not sold on Rob. IMO we have the best DC in Rivera and the best guy to execute it in McDermit. Still Cam would put them over the top and make them one of the most explosive teams in the league. Oddly enough most panthers fans would be happy to have Tony Homo cause he is a vet and live in mediocrity for the next 4 years.

I think Romo is much better than mediocre, but he also throws a lot in Dallas and has a great team around him, so I'm not so sure his numbers would be the same here, and I don't think Brees's numbers would be the same here either. I still believe the Panthers will be a running team, and it's simply hard for any QB to put up those kind of numbers on a running football team.

Good QBs dont fold when they make it to the playoffs. Romo puts up good numbers but is still mediocre as a QB.

You think Cam is "Close" to where Romo was but think Cam should go #1 while Romo was undrafted.

That's a glowing endorsement if I've ever seen one.

Obviously, Romo should have been drafted. Besides that, you're comparing a 31yr old NFL veteran to a rookie, which is not quite fair either. It's not how Cam compares to Romo now, it's about how he will compare 2-3 years from now, which BTW, will probably be close to the end of Romo's career, since he relys on escapability to make plays and he's not the biggest QB in the world...those hits are already starting to slow him down.
