Panthers Questions

Orange Habit

Hey there, congrats on the big Monday Night win, and after watching that game, I'm legitimately worried about the Broncos traveling there next week. They can clinch the AFC West with a win, but this might be the toughest opponent they've faced yet on the schedule.

Other than last night, the only live Panthers football I've watched was that last drive on opening week (thanks for beating the Chargers, by the way!), so I'm left with a lot of questions on what to expect as I don't know this team real well.

--Other than Steve Smith, how many serious threats do the Panthers have at receiver? I don't recall Muhammad's name being called too much, and I do recall the announcers saying that Jarrett's had a rough entry into the NFL. I ask because the Broncos are really thin in the secondary, and their safeties are just awful.

--Do the Panthers still run a zone-blocking system like the Broncos do? I thought I recalled a while back that they were trying it out, but when they drafted Otah, who does not seem like a zone-blocker to me at all, I wasn't sure. The way DeAngelo was running made me badly wish that the Broncos had him now--as you may know, the RB injuries in Denver have been historically bad, and he was running just like zone-blocking RBs would--one cut and go.

--What's the Panthers' depth like at cornerback? I noted a thread earlier here complaining about Ken Lucas--has Richard Marshall been coming along at all? The Broncos definitely have the ability to stretch out the secondary, and right now, that might be the only way I can see the Broncos able to win the game, is if Cutler can find some one on one mismatches.

Thanks for any answers you might have--I may have more questions later. Also, if you have any questions at all about the Broncos, feel free to ask.

We have alot of cell phone places in Charlotte if you need anymore running backs.

BOOYAH!

Receiver wise: Moose is solid but beyond that our 3rd receiver will have 2 catches at most.

DB wise: Nothing to speak of after Marshall

We have a big O-line but we throw the odd zone blocking play in there to mix things up and cos DWill grew up with it in college.

Smith is our only game breaker at WR, but muhammed and hackett are competent enough to make a difference, jarrett is solid and has a knack for big 3rd down catches but is relativley quiet for the most part

Zone-blocking was pretty much alot of media hype, we tried it, didn't really work that great, so now we are back to more of a down hill running team, but honestly there were never as many changes as it was made out to be

We understand the RB issues trust me, 04 was a nightmare

We have great depth at CB, probably the best in the leauge, Lucas had a horrible game against the bucs, gamble is a stud, marshall is an excellent well rounded player

Our rookie saftey godfrey has made his fair share of rookie mistakes but usually does not get picked on

How do you think the game plan will change (if at all) with yet another running back? Is Selvin Young healthy enough to spell Tatum Bell?

Does Jarvis Moss get much playing time? For such a high draft pick he seems, at least to me, to be buried behind the Cleveland-import D-line.

    • I dont think people realize how hard it is to find a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Byrce will not heart us to a SB but I do think he can manage to get us one or close..go all in on defense and change the Offensive passing game and play calls. I really think our biggest problem is our HC.  Take New Orleans QB for example, switch him and Bryce and I promise you it'll look similar or worse. New Orleans OC is levels ahead of Canales. And as far as the draft goes, in this division with as much rb talent as we face ..the answer...this guy:    Pick up a couple edge rushers in FA along with a corner and plug this guy in Rozeboom's spot. Defense solved. But only if we get a top tier rusher on that dline....jus saying
    • I think I'm going to the game in Los Angeles vs Paraguay, and the England / Croatia game here in Dallas since my mom is British.  For decent seats anywhere in the building(s) it looks like it will be upwards of $7k for the two games.  Insane. Just for perspective, you could buy field level EPL tickets for any one of the top sides in the league, and it would be 10% of the price you'll pay for crappy seats at the World Cup.
    • Meh… I knew this thread would turn into a Bryce/Tua comparison, when they couldn’t be further apart situations.   Dolphins catered there whole offense toward Tua, they brought in a coach that would run a Tua friendly offense, the went in got the best most explosive WR in the NFL and paired him the fastest WR in that years draft. Panthers have done the opposite, they went and got a Pete Carroll disciple who likes to run the ball under center, they drafted big slow WR who got little separation in college. Literally the polar opposite of Bryce’s scouting report coming out of Alabama.   Tua was a decent QB 2 years ago, but the concussions, lack of movement have caught up to him. He never had a great arm to begin with but now since he doesn’t want to get hit he’s taking the whole offense down with him.
