Next years draft status.

What is it going to be next year? Are we going to hold the #1 pick again?

What's guaranteeing that the Panthers are going to be holding a high pick next year? I never understood the "Hurrff we gonna draft BPA then draft Luck next year Hurrff"

Is it something I've missed, or is it assumed that we're going to be in the drafting position to grab a top QB prospect next year?

I've never understood this faulty logic.

No matter whom we draft this year, we cannot sign them until there is a CBA. If one is not reached ( or imposed) by the 2012 draft, all this years draftees will have to re-enter that draft.(unless the draft itself is ruled illegal). While there is little chance that this will occur, it would certainly lead to a loaded draft next year.

Re: the bolded part above...I don't believe this is true. My understanding is they would still be on the books as the team's selection and would just need to be signed.

Correct me if I am wrong.

This is according to Gil Brandt on Sirius. Drafted players have until the next draft to sign or go back into the next draft. Undrafted players, who cannot be signed now either( although teams will undoubtably have wink and nod agreement,) would continue to be free agents and not go back into the draft.

This really makes sense when you think about it. If all a player had to do was refuse to sign with their drafted team and could become a free agent after a year, no 1st rounder would ever sign.

That would be wild. Seems they would then have to have the equivalent of a 14 round draft, with round 1A and 1B etc. through round 7.

Short of doing this doubling up, some really good players (i.e. normal 3rd to 4th round quality) would be falling into the free agent pool.

    • Sadly I think the team views Wallace as the guy, and despite help from TD and Luke, he's barely taken a step. Need to upgrade the position in the worst way, and hope he can develop into a decent 2nd guy.
    • Bryce is throwing lobs not darts. Which is fine if they are going to a guy we feel confident in but if the defense picks up on the offensive scheme the easiest way to combat that is make sure your safety is always sliding to Coker or tmac and leave XL with the one on one opportunity. Don't get me wrong the passes were thrown with great placement but Coker and tmac made plays on the ball that I wouldn't count on XL to make. That would be how I would defend deep against us. Especially on that crosser for tmacs td. No way in fug my safety is going to shade to xl's side and leave my corner one on one with Tmac
    • The bucs schedule is irrelevant. We have to beat the saints and beat them twice. If we split with them they are getting in and we're going home. The only way we get in with a split is is going 3-1 and them losing 3 games which means we beat them once and they lose to 2 of the saints, falcons and dolphins. Losing a game to them is not an option. We better bottle up whatever we had against the rams. Going forward that has to be the way we play. 35 runs to 20 passes. The run game has to be effective and when called upon Bryce has to float that ball into a perfect spot and beat the one on one coverage
